If you are a fan of SP, as I am, you'll enjoy this. Yes, the scenes are old, and show it, yet the technical upgrading for the DVD is impressive. A good buy. Southern Pacific Pictorial on DVD by Greg Scholl Steamboy (Revere MA US) on 2016-05-09 20:20:51.
While this video features 1989-1991(Greg's JVC era) footage of chasing 2 long oil trains over Cajon Pass & the Tehachapi mountains especially the popular loop, there are some mixed SP freights as well as 2 scenes of steam engine 4449 heading to Fresno. The majority was shot during production of "SP 4449 the Daylight" minus the 1991 footage which was made specially for this program, Plus June 1994 action over Donner pass, through the Nevada desert, and ends at utah's book hill cliffs which were also shot during production of "America by Rail: The Heartland". Plus bonus 10 minutes of April 1995 action at Salinas and Klamath falls Oregon during production of "America by Rail: The West Coast Route", mainly by telling the 2 familiar & extended scenes of Amtrak's Coast Starlight. Plus a teaser/opening credits for "SP's overland route" which Greg was still working on at the time this DVD was made, is also added at the end. Especially 3 Previews: Santa Fe Pictorial, The 2006 Re-edited version of SP 4449 The Daylight, & SP Vintage Steam. |
