BNSF's 2001 Employee Appreciation Special

Follow steam locomotive Frisco 1522 on an historic journey through Texas as she pulls Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Employee Appreciation Special. Starting in Ft. Worth, the train headed south through Temple and on to Houston and Silsbee a whole new territory for this powerful 4-8-2 Mountain-type locomotive. The 1522 got a good workout, producing intense bursts of stack talk while lugging 16 gleaming passenger cars through the Texas Hills. She performed flawlessly, highballing over former Santa Fe track at incredible speeds.

You'll follow the 1522 on her travels for a total of 8 days, spotting railroad icons such as Tower 55, Tower 17, T&NO Junction, and more. On the run out to Silsbee and back the Special traversed the former Southern Pacific Sunset Route between Houston and Beaumont. The train passed small towns and rolled through beautiful, rural landscapes. Crossing rivers, stomping up hills, and sprinting across the countryside, the locomotive was a sight to behold. Join us trackside for a fantastic show of steam railroading as the 1522 conquers the Lone Star State!

Enjoyed seeing the Frisco 1522 galloping (steaming?) through Texas. Gave me some ideas on where to bench trains in that part of Texas.
Additional comments:
Narration: Just enough.

This was an excellent Pentrex production. Even though I've never seen 1522 in person, from what productions I own featuring it, it is one incredible steamer. I'm rather sad it had to be put back in retirement thanks to stupid insurance and maintenance.

This was before it's second retirement on BNSF's employee special, and the camera crew did an excellent job covering it's trip through the Lone Star State. Scenes of it when it was really flying were awesome! Seriously, steam engines on the mainline today shold be permitted to run at speeds like that.

Anybody who likes Pentrex or the 1522 in general must have this production. They've captured this engine in the excllent quality we've come to expect from them.

If you don't mind seeing the same train over and over again then you won't mind this video. Even though different locations were shown, I still had to watch this video in segments because I got bored after a while. Don't get me wrong, the 1522 is a great steam engine and she put on quite a show, but seeing the same train again and again got a little old after a half hour of watching the program. If you have a few minutes of free time, but not enough to watch a video the whole way through, bring this tape...

This DVD is the best one so far, for me. As a kid I had a few travels on steam engines, so I have a definite love for them. And ole 1522 really gave me a thrill, seeing the engineer pour the coals to her, and let her run...
