FOR NEARLY FIVE YEARS, master modeler Tom Miller remained intensely focused on building the finest Fn3 model railroad possible. The result was a world class 45'x 90' layout featuring many of his favorite southwestern narrow gauge sites.

Literally from the ground up, Tom designed and built his 4,500 square foot clear span depot specifically with modeling in mind ... 20-foot high mountains, elaborate scenery, 24-hour lighting cycles, Train Master control systems, day and night sound effects, and some of the finest art work to be found in the hobby.

Tom's layout is now finished and has been acclaimed by hundreds of visitors and in dozens of articles and interviews as one of the outstanding examples of railroad modeling in the world ... but they all ask the same question ... "How did you do it?"

Now, you can see the answer yourself in this three-hour step by step review of Tom's five year effort to build this incredible model railroad ... while keeping his grasp on reality! When Tom opened the doors of his new building, we were there with our cameras to record his progress as he labored six days a week, ten hours per day, to turn his dream into reality.

You will see how he built the bench work to support the light weight composite layout, the wiring to maintain constant power, and the 24-hour lighting moods. You will hear Tom discuss his philosophy of modeling, and you will meet some of the talented contractors who provided some cutting-edge techniques ... Joel Bragdon and his polymer mountains, Scott Anderson's and Joe Crea's working structures, Jim Wells who painted day and night soundscapes, artist Jose Solis whose backgrounds transcend the four walls, and Tom himself whose dedication to scenic realism defies description.

This program is "must viewing" for serious modelers looking for new "tricks" to making a layout as realistic as it gets, but without a fork lift. Start with the introduction, then follow your interests through the chapter list ... and enjoy!

Wow! If you're a modeler, or you want to be a modeler, this is a MUST HAVE! This series covers the building of the railroad in detail. It starts with the actual construction of the building, the design, the backdrop (in depth!), benchwork, trackwork, lighting, casting & hard shell, water features, trestle construction, structures, sound, and tons more.

I've seen other model RR DVDs and this one covers a lot more in better detail and at a lower cost. By the way, this is an F scale layout, but most of the details are applicable for any other scale.

Very impressive DVD, and that Tom Miller is one lucky guy!
