The Legendary Canadian had its inaugural run on April 24, 1955 and with the introduction of this classic stainless steel train, it has been in a class of its own. Even today these coaches are still in operation for VIA RAIL CANADA, using the same cars that were originally ordered for Canadian Pacific.

In 2011 Greg Scholl Video Productions purchased this DVD from Rail Innovations in Canada. The DVD consists of two main segments. First is a 20 minute show that was made by Canadian Pacific when the train first ran, and shows a trip across the country with sound and narration as a publicity film in 1955. You see everything from onboard to spectacular trackside views as it travels west toward Vancouver.

The second part of the dvd is "Working Number 1" which gives you a behind the scenes look at the people and efforts necessary to keep the "Canadian" going under VIA RAIL ownership. You will see the shops, in the station, trackside, and aboard the train, prior to and during much of No. 1's first leg from Toronto to Capreol. This includes all aspects of the jobs onboard the train and you will see views from the engine cab. This was shot and mastered on broadcast video equipment and with great production equipment.

There is also a short film "The New Budd Train" which is a newsreel program with trackside, aerial, and onboard film footage showing the "Canadian" being tested behind Reading F-units in the Philadelphia area.

If you like train travel, and the "CANADIAN" is probably north America's BEST train, then you will want to get "The Legendary Canadian"

Another fine Rail innovatios Production. A 3 in 1 Combo, entirely about the World Famous "Canadian".
Start with scenes from the 1950's when under the CPR banner, the Canadian travels from Montreal and Toronto to Vancouver. There is no train ride in the world like it. See the service, the glorious beauty of the north Lake Superior region, on across the Canadian Prairies, and into the Rocky Mountains, ending in Vancouver. See Toronto's Royal York Hotel when it was the tallest structure in downtown. Jump ahead to the late 1990's, and the Canadian under the VIA banner. See the working operations of the train crew as VIA #1 makes it's way north to Parry Sound Ontario. At 19 cars long it is short by the length it is today at over 26 cars long. Every part is covered from Union Station to meets along the way.
End with a segment as we go back in time to when the cars fist depart their manufacture in Pennsylvania. See the celebrations along the way from ground and air as the Canadian makes it's maiden voyage.
You'll love every minute of this exciting video presentation. The greatest passenger train in the World -- "The Canadian". (And yes, I have travelled it from Toronto to the Prairie Provinces. It's every bit as exciting when on board).
A must for every rail fan collection.
