Dayton's Bluff is a busy railfanning hot spot in Minnesota's Twin Cities. Five railroad tracks are nestled between the Mississippi River and the mile-long Dayton's Bluff, which is part of Indian Mounds Park and is the location of several Dakota Indian burial mounds. Several locations in the park provide views of both the railroad and the scenic skyline.

The tracks below Dayton's Bluff are owned by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the Canadian Pacific, but you can expect to see every railroad that runs through the Twin Cities on these tracks: Amtrak, I&M Rail Link, Minnesota Commercial, Twin Cities and Western and Union Pacific. In some scenes we see two and sometimes more trains meeting here. In addition to being a main lines fot the BNSF and CP, these lines also serve as transfer lines between yards of the individual railroads. In addition to Dayton's Bluff, We also see the Roberts Street Lift Bridge in the downtown area, Park Junction, Short Line Hill and a few other areas.

Narration is minimal, and train symbol markers are provided for most trains. The photography is sharp, but some scenes do have haze, which is common in the area during summer. Alco fans will be particularly happy with the coverage of the Minnesota Commercial's six axle Alcos. I do have one complaint about this video...it is too short. There are several other good locations that are not covered. I would have gladly paid the additional $5.00 that C Vision charges for their Windy City series which are about 2 hours long. Hey, C Vision, how about a Volume 2?
Additional remarks by armchairrailfan: Narration: Just enough. Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it. Image quality: Excellent! DVD Value: Excellent Value! Recommend to others? Definitely.

Dayton's Bluff is a railroad funnel. Several different lines make their way in and out of the Twin Cities region of St. Paul/Minneapolis Minnesota as they follow the Mississippi River. Canadian Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe are 2 of the larger lines, but there appearances by Union Pacific, Rail Link, Amtrak.... etc... including some Minnesota Commercial Alco's C-Vision shows us several different views points which the railroads, the River, and the Twin Cities are seen. Various seasons are shown as well. 2/3 of the video is at the Dayton Bluff area, before moving into the cities and seeing some action which includes trains crossing the Mississippi River. This is a good video that is worth the time to see. My only disappointment is the length of the video at only 60 minutes long. This region is a hot spot and it would have been good if the producers had spent more time in the Twin Cities, being that they show some. Otherwise, an excellent production of a great railroad region.
