Jim Terrell enjoyed visiting and filming the railroads of Mexico. His favorites were the United Southeastern's (FUS) narrow gauge lines out of Merida on the Yucatan Peninsula. The National Railroad, NdeM, also operated a narrow gauge branch out of Oriental, near Vera Cruz. Both roads used EMD G8 narrow gauge diesel locomotives and carried passengers as well as freight. But in the Motul area of Yucatan, there was an extensive network of one-half meter gauge horse car railroads. These were used by anyone with a car and an animal. They were also used by industry for in plant transfers. Jim covered all of this in the early 1980's. All color, in camera sound, maps and narration. One hour and 48 minutes. I reviewed "Mexican Narrow Gauge". As a lifelong fan of the Mexican railroads, this is a must-have DVD! It has footage of a rarely video-documented part of Mexican railroad history. There are unexpected treats not mentioned in the DVD's decription showing parts of the now replaced Mexicano Division in operation prior to it's shutdown. The DVd even offers up the return trip on National of Mexico from Veracruz to the United States. I salute the producers of this excellent DVD, and highly recommend Train Video Depot for their great service!

This DVD gives a very good overview about diesel operation in Mexico. The film focus mainly on two narrow gauge lines, but many very good scenes show diesel operation on standard gauge and the horse powered sisal lines of Yucatan too. The film has original sound, image quality is good and narration is informativ.
