While slow-moving freights are not my favorite aspect of railroading, I do like diesels, and since I live in NYC, I don't usually get to these kinds of locales often. So that's why I bought this video when Pentrex first made it available.
The videography is excellent. Most of it is filmed under a clear blue sky. As the previous reveiwers stated, there is much variety in this video.
However, I feel this video could have been cut down a bit. I didn't think it was necessary to see every car of a 75 car double stack (or whatever). I wish each train was cut just a few cars after the diesel. But no matter; it's a good look at what takes place daily at Tehachapi. It's really for the ultimate freight fan only. If you like passenger trains, this video isn't for you.

This two disk set, has 4 hours on each disk. Disk one goes from Bakersfield to Mojave through all four seasons. Disk two is from Mojave back to Bakersfield. There are a lot of trains on these two disks. The speed limit in the mountains is slow, so you will see a lot of detail.

8 hours of video... that's a lot of trains passing by. Besides the range of diesel power and the variety of types of cars, there are fast trains, slow trains, trains in towns, trains in the country. With so much footage time, the producers had the opportunity to let lengthy trains go by as information was provided. It took me a couple of sittings to get through this one but what I liked most about this video was the sense of awe I felt after watching thousands of tons of goods and materials being tranported for all of us to have a better life. It is an incredible achievement to move so much, so efficiently, so safely. You got to figure its worth 3 or 4 sittings of new sights. Pentrex did a great job with this one.

I enjoyed seeing the BNSF locomotives in different paint jobs, including the ATSF war bonnet and the use of locomotives from NS and CSX. The UP trains were great, including an SP locomotive.

I really enjoyed this DVD. It is modern western mainline railroading,8 hours strong. Most of the locomotives are Hi Horsepower six axle units, not too many SD 40-2's or four axle units. A lot of Inter-modals, manifests and some grain trains. The geography is varied and so is the weather.

Narration: Just enough.

A very interesting movie on Tehachapi. Lots of movements of lots of different power from various Railroads. The territory is well covered east to west and back which gives the viewer an interesting propective of the region. Shot from many different angles makes the movie even more interesting. Roughly 70 miles (110 km) covered which means that the territory is well documented.
The only major fault I found was the total length. 8 hours is almost to long for any movie. I found that when showing the movie to others, interest was fading after
3 1/2 to 4 hours. Still I recomend this movie to any Railfan.
