I found this video to be a nice addition to Vol. #1. A good start with some old footage of the SOO power, and the video builds from there. The region covered is not an area where many video graphers have gone, so this adds to the interest. I really enjoyed the 2nd half of the video, through the farm district of Iowa going to Mason City. There are a lot of trains with multiple power and foreign power or power of days to come. There are many nice shots from high above (on hills) along the Mississippi that one would find interesting also. This is a video that most fans will enjoy and deserves at least a 4/5 rating.

After watching this video, I was pleasantly surprised. The SOO footage from the early 90's was a little shaky, but worth it in my book. Only wish there was a little more of it. Overall, the videography was good with some exceptional footage on the Mason line. Two SD40-2's were caught as helpers on Calmar Hill, which was a real treat! The preview for this video is a pretty good representation of what the video is all about. My vote is a 4+ out of 5.

Well I was a bit disappointed in this program. Now don't get me wrong, the last two thirds is not at all too bad, but the beginning leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. The camera work was fair, I think better camera angles could have been selected, mainly not being on the shadow side of the train. Several scenes were rendered kind of on the dark side because of this fact. The first part of the program, is very irritating to watch, with the seemingly endless "click-whirl, click-whirl" of a camera power winder and noisy shutter going off, from the videographers son whom is railfanning alongside his Dad. Now this is all well and good, but he should have kept a distance so that extraneous noises (like shutters and such) are not picked up on the audio track. I have seen better DVD programs, but I have also seen worse. My 5 star rating is a 2 and a half......
