To railfans, "street running" brings to mind images of long trains operating down busy city streets while auto traffic swerves to avoid disastrous collisions. That's exactly what you'll find in this collective look at 22 locations around the country where railroads continue to run trains down the middle of main streets.

Street running is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Modesto, California, where the Tidewater Southern (now UP) tracks have been a problem for years, has finally seen its last train pass down busy 9th Street. You'll see it just days before the line was closed. You'll also visit Erie, Pennsylvania, where street running will soon be eliminated on Norfolk Southern tracks running down 19th Street. Other notable locations include Brooklyn, New York; Chicago, Illinois; Oakland, California; Augusta, Georgia; La Grange, Kentucky; Michigan City, Indiana; West Brownsville, Pennsylvania; Santa Cruz, California; San Antonio, Texas; and New Albany, Indiana. These trains are operated by CSX, UP, NS, BNSF, CP and several short lines.

It's an electrifying experience to view massive coal trains, freights, time-sensitive intermodal trains, commuter operations, and even switch crews as they negotiate their way through traffic-filled streets in Street Running!

This is pretty neat, I thought it would be just short simple trains, but it has a lot of long ones!, many, many close calls!, after I have seen it, not sure how many times I will watch again?

Additional remarks by howie:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? Not unless they REALLY were interested in the subject matter.

A little disappointed with this Dvd as it showed some clips from other Pentrex titles, and also showed street tracks in towns where they were unable to film any trains using them.

Here's another take on railroading - large diesels and commuter trains rumbling down streets with cars, pedestrians and cyclists. There's some "close calls" that were caught on tape by Pentrex. Watching a big GP unit stop at an intersection the way a truck does was really interesting....these railroads must follow all traffic rules as motorists do!

One of my favorites. Something about seeing giant locomotives gliding along the road with barely any visible means of support so close to traffic. And I love those scenes of rickety old track embedded in the road.

This video covers street running all over the country. Especially sad was to see the Modesto last train street running. Never to come back.

Wow. Trains, all kinds, all different types of power. Moving slowly, cars on the look out for these monster size giants in the middle of auto roads.
Locations through out the USA adds to the movie, big cities and smaller towns. Various weather conditions adds to excitement.
There is nothing quite like it. It's a movie that will captivate even the interest of non-railfans. There is always some different in the next scene.
Well done.

just finished watching this this was a great video showing all the locations to watch for street running to bad most of the lines in this video were gone many of the pedestrians were vary careless not stopping for the trains although pentrex wished they could of visited other locations but I'm satisfied with this though some footage was from other titles that I own but still a great video I'd think the music video was the best way to pay tribute to street running hopefully some of the lines in the video will stay if not then that closes street running in the books

This is a great video and the excellent quality we've come to expect from Pentrex. I thought they should have sown some footage of trains on street sections they mentioned in the DVD but were unable to film trains according to the program? Overall, it's an excellent video and I recommend it for any railfan who really enjoys Street Running. I hope they decide to make a Part 2 for this subject?

One of my favorites. There's some street running in Hudson NY, but not too many other places between there & Brooklyn. It's cool seeing these diesels & freights barrelling their way through neighborhoods, quaint downtowns, etc. You can see how the locals take them for granted: despite the annoyance, they deal with the trains. I think it's pretty cool
