This is my absolute favorite contemporary RR action video. My "comfort video" if you will. Santa Fe "warbonnet" painted units are a real treat to the eyes, and the blue and yellow units look great too as they have trains ripping by on searchlight signalled, heavy multiple track nice southern California scenery, both rural and suburban/urban. Filmed in 1994, this is at the near peak of the warbonnet era: alas my favorite, the SD75Ms didn't arrive till 1995 and by the end of that year the merger with the BN put the kibsosh on the pure ATSF show. As said before power is the most modern then, but with many many 2nd generation EMD's and GE dash-7's ( another favorite of mine ) and they are all CLEAN. I never get tired of watching seemingly unending streams of fast freights blast by in perfect light thanks to excellent camera work and the beautiful California weather. Many many are stack or pig trains and mostly the whole train is filmed, but they are colorful and fast moving so it never drags. The usual stellar Pentrex camera work, video quality, and sound is all there. Same for the narration, professional and informative, and for any time I find it interrupts natural train sounds, the narration can be selected off.

Santa Fe to L.A. is a good video. There is lots of train action, with a wide variety of the Santa Fe roster, along with other companies, including plenty of passenger and commuter trains. The scenery is well shown for the region with the excellent hills as backdrops to the north and east of San Bernardino. The narrators do a good job telling the story of the line to Hobart Yard. And there is a few little surprises that do open the eyes of the viewer, like a "pig train", market size pigs that is. You can even hear the pigs squealing.
It's your basic train video from Point A to Point B. Other than the "pig train", the bonus footage shot from the Green River Golf Course is what I considered the best part of the entire movie. Looking up, watching trains roll by while golfers take little notice.
Not on my favorite list, but not a disappointment either.

Excellent clear images. Nice locations with steady action through the city and outlying foothills of southern California. Mainly a steady run-by of trains traversing the area. Good tribute to Santa Fe with yard and mainline action.

I enjoyed this DVD. Lots of variety and it moves along at a steady pace. I especially appreciated filming using a cherry picker so we could get a nice overview of the yard without all the distracting wires. Some brief footage footage of TOFL loading. I wish the video included more Port of LA/LB footage but it is still a nice video which I will watch multiple times.

Good video definitely for a fan of the Santa Fe before the merger with the Burlington Northern. All filmed in 1994 with appearances from Amtrak and Metro Link and freight with SP and UP traveling across California. I do wish the Santa Fe was still around. This is definitely for your collection.
