In this issue of RVQ, there is the first 15 minutes of the passing of Jerry Jacobson, with footage shot by NKP 765 engineer Richard Melvin, Ron McElrath, employee Grant Geist, the late Dave Goodheart, and many more. First, the segment starts with a ceremony on Jerrys 50th birthday during June of 1993, as Dick Marshall reads the speech. Many of these scenes were previously released on the 1995 Ohio Central video with CN 1551. Next a clip from Steam Dream by Goodheart productions is included, which includes an interview with Jerry, and some black and white and color silent steam films by John stein and Vaughn smith. Afterwards, more modern clips are included which contains cab rides, BC&G 13 switching tracks, and 765 at chuyahoga in September of 2017. A building site of the roundhouse is shown, plus Yreka western 19 on a flatbed. Next some short unexplained clips are included, which contains a look at the workshop, and the first revenue run of the OC in April of 1988 at Zainesville with a chessie system GP9 in the consist. Alco switcher numbed 12 is shown, as well as the 2 hours after midnight prom trip in May of 1992. Plus a nature trip to the graffiti rocks, as well as some diesel action. Of course all of these scenes were shown in the 1995 Ohio Central Video. New scenes are shown which includes a longer train with an Amtrak f40, F-unit 1000 rolling through the yard, plus Canadian pacific 1293 crossing a bridge, as well as a ride with a photo runby of the engine. Plus 6325 makes a passenger run in the snow, and concludes with a doubleheader of 1551, and BC&G 13. Plus a tripleheader with 1293. Finally, the last run of steam on September 30, 2008 is shown as 1293 arrives back at sugar creek.

From the little Switzerland of Ohio, we head to the Rockies at Como Colorado for a visit to the South Park rail society. The main focus of this segment is the return of 2-6-2 number 4 the narrow Gauge engine. Not the standard gauge engine on the Laona And Northern in Wisconsin.

Afterwards a cab ride on the canon city and royal gorge is included, as the power for this trip is engine 3104.

One of the National headlines of 2017, is the solar eclipse on August 21. First we hear a February 26, 1979 report on the last eclipse with Frank Reynolds reporting. Then we are at the Amtrak effingham Illinois platform. Some Amtrak trains are shown.

In North Carolina, we head to the great smoky mountains railroad on June 1. As we see some equipment on display. With some writing bulletins and vintage signs. A ride aboard one of the coaches is included. Plus US army 1702 takes a spin on the turntable. Next we leave Bryson city behind the engine passing through equipment. 1702 crosses the bridge over the river. The majority of this segment is riding onboard the entire line. On the return trip, the diesels take charge.

At Detroit some silent streetcar clips are included with a ride on the battery operated models on the Q line. Plus a brief visit to The greenfield village at the Henry ford museum in dearborn. With an articulated C&O engine operating on a freight in that vintage silent clip. A look at the workshop is included, plus 4-4-0 number 7 operates the train around the museum grounds.

The other segments are diesel related which also includes the B-17 aircraft reunion. Plus clips from Charles Smileys Canadian electric rails are included. Norfolk southern At Vermillion Ohio is shown, plus 90s action on the finger lakes railway is included That has a military train. Vintage 1966 films are included from Washington DC to Hagerstown Maryland. Next a look at some air horn replicas on top of the automobiles is included with Norfolk southern at horseshoe curve, and other locations down the line.

These next segments are filmed by Kevin Gilliam of trains magazine and Mike Noonkester. Which includes CSX doing some street running in Indiana, which also as some BNSF power. Next the Keokuk junction railway is operating the F-units on a freight. On the Abilene & Smoky valley in Kansas, AT&SF 4-6-2 number 3415 operates the selected weekend trips on the former rock island branch to enterprise. Some cattle is being loaded, and 3415 heads down the line, whistling through the fields at a less than 15mph speed limit. Leaving Kansas, we head east to Mt. pleasant Iowa, as we are at the Midwest old threshers reunion that was held every Labor Day weekend. The Midwest central railroad operates on a loop of track. First we see 2-6-0 number 6 running light, followed by Georgetown loop #12 on a passenger run. Next number 6 powers a mixed train, then number 12 comes following behind. The railroad also operates electric streetcars. Leaving the threshers reunion, a standard Gauge freight passes by the crossing. Afterwards, we head north to the western Minnesota steam threshers reunion at the town of Rollag where 0-6-0 slopeback tender engine number 353 powers a freight with mostly wooden built stock cars. At the Lake Superior railroad museums north shore scenic railroad, DM&IR 332 (D&NE 28) powers various charter trains down the line. Which includes an ore train, a passenger train, and a mixed train. Eventually, these trips were also shown in the newly released steam railroading in the north country DVD by Les Jarret at railway productions but there are the same scenes in that video with the late Mike Lynch music. Leaving Minnesota, we head to the Laona and northern railroad as 2-6-2 number 4 powers a regular passenger train. Finally we see 765 on the short ferry run from Ft Wayne to Cleveland.

At Akron, there is an unusual shoreline there which is operated by the wheeling and Lake Erie called the Akron, Barberton and cluster railway. A look at the chuyahoga valley scenic railway regular passenger train with B&O 800 that was formed VIA 6780.

Finally the issue came to a close as we see some Pennsylvania steam locomotives on display in 1967, as well as a ride onboard Jersey Central 113 from minersville pulling the Santa Claus train. Onboard clips and runbys of the lone operating CNJ steamer is included.

RVQ-the variety pack of railfan video has provided a fine issue in #101. Beyond the tribute to Jerry Joe Jacobson, there is plenty of variety here, including a lot of steam..electric traction and yes a brief B-17 segment, a fitting tribute to our WWII veterans as well as the aircraft. It does not distract from an otherwise excellent #101. If you are looking for variety, you will find it here.
