Climb aboard the cab of a L.I.R.R. GP-38-2 diesel engine for a "Head-End" ride from Greenport to Ronkonkoma, N.Y, (part 2 covers the balance of the trip into Jamaica). Our train is the" L.I.R.R. 160th Anniversary Special" which was operated on July 23, 1994 to celebrate 160 years of continuous operation. This picturesque line is single track non-electrified manual block territory. 75 Minutes - Color - Sound

The two inconsistently titled volumes that make up this Greenport to Jamaica cab ride are a poor value. Both videos Greenport to Jamaica (actually Ronkonkoma) (Vol. One) and Ronkonkoma to Jamaica (Vol. Two) could easily have fit on a single disc. What's worse, there is virtually no narration, so the viewer has no idea what stations and towns the train is passing. Only by listening carefully to the background chatter does the viewer have any sense of the trains whereabouts.
LIRR fans are better off sticking with the Penn Station to Port Jefferson DVD. BTW, there is also a Penn Station to Speonk and Speonk to Montauk set available. Although both could also have fit on a single disc, the narration is so good that I don't mind having to purchase two separate discs.
