The Canadian Pacific between Exshaw, Alberta and Revelstoke, British Columbia runs through the very scenic Rocky and Selkirk Mountains. This video is produced in the travelogue style that should be interesting to most people, not just railfans. This video is in the 4X3 Full Screen format.

The program starts out showing the CP's Royal Canadian luxury excursion train and Rocky Mountain Rail Tours' Rocky Mountaineer tourist train. It then highlights unit and manifest trains, explaining what the various types of trains carry, and then explains the various locomotives used by the CP. Special attention is given to the scenery and wildlife of the area. The history of Rogers Pass and the Spiral Tunnels of Kicking Horse Pass are covered. The video includes some brief cab ride sequences and features a ride through the 9-mile long Mt. McDonald Tunnel..

From a railfan's point of view, the narration is excessive, but will be helpful for other folks. It includes a nice New Age music soundtrack. The photography is exceptionally good (too bad that it is not in the Wide Screen format). Note that the volume level is higher than most railfan videos. This is a railroad video that the entire family will enjoy. Fans of the high horsepower EMD SD90MACs engines will enjoy this video.

Additional remarks by armchairrailfan:
Narration: A little bit too much.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Excellent Value!

TRACKS OF THE BEAVER

Video has very interesting locations, however the entire video has been bombarded with narration and dreadful background music that cannot be eliminated. Personally, I enjoy a little bit of narration without any music and having the ability to listen to the sound of trains. I felt it was overpriced for my enjoyment but because I am a fan of CANADIAN PACIFIC it was a "must-have". I recommend this video to hardcore CPR fans, and for those that leisurely enjoy the outdoors as if you were going on VIA Rail across Canada.

Cheers,

ROVERT

Narration: Way too much!
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Overpriced for the amount of enjoyment I got out of it.
Recommend to others? Not unless they REALLY were interested in the subject matter.

One of Highballs best efforts to date. Superb scenery and railroad action, though I fear that diehard train fans would prefer more footage of trains instead of nature.

Additional remarks by hueycrewman:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? Definitely.

Here is a most interesting video of the Canadian Pacific Railway line in western Alberta/eastern British Columbia Canada. Like the other Rail Adventure videos, this is not your average railroad video. Designed with the tourist in mind, we are taken on a site seeing adventure of the region. There is plenty of water falls, white water with rafters; glaciers and the mountain peaks; wild life including birds, elk, chipmunks, black bears etc... The scenery is amoung the most beautiful in all of North America.
For the railfan, there are lots of trains. The Royal Canadian Pacific, the Rocky Mountainair, and lots of long freight trains. Seen from various angles and locations, including cab rides. Very little is left out. See the exciting Spiral Tunnels with long trains passing over themselves. And then there is the MacDonald Tunnel. So much more along the way.
The video has plenty of music through out, but what was really impressive was the narration. The narrator has done his homework. There are explanations of the power and trains, the geographical region, and the history of the region. This is a very imformative video. No questios, diffinantly one of the finest videos of the region by anyone and one of the best videos by Highball Productions. Top marks for this production. Recommended for all to purchase.
