Come along with C. Vision Productions and tour the St. Croix Subdivision of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. We document the St. Croix Sub as it follows the Mississippi River from La Crosse, Wisconsin to St. Croix Junction south of St. Paul, Minnesota. This mostly double track main line is a part of the BNSF's northern Transcontinental Mainline from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest. With the addition of the major hub of Minneapolis and St. Paul, this line has plenty of high speed railroad action!
Watch 60 mile per hour intermodal trains waste no time hauling high priority freight. Other mainline general freight trains and grain trains also make their way along the St. Croix Sub. You will be amazed by the variety of motive power. Older SD-40 dash 2's are still common. General Electric Dash 9-44CW's and newer GE ES-44DC's also head up trains in both the Heritage 2 and the new "Swoosh" style paint schemes. We also capture ex-Santa Fe GE power including Dash 8-40BW's!
This subdivision is full of spectacular scenery. Sit back as we take you high atop of Buena Vista Park in Alma, Wisconsin. This location provides an awesome vantage point to watch trains rolling through this picturesque river town. We also capture several trains crossing the St. Croix River lift bridge in Prescott, Wisconsin. The Mississippi River valley provides an array of tree covered bluffs creating beautiful backdrops for the numerous trains that travel this line.
Combining the natural beauty of the Mississippi River valley, and the images of BNSF trains, this video is one that you will want to watch again and again!

This video covers the BNSF St Croix Sub from LaCrosse WI to St Croix MN along the east bank of the Mississippi River. BNSF On the Banks of the Mississippi shows a railroad at work and a lot of the scenery along the upper Mississippi River.
<p>Scenic highlights include Lock and Dam at Trempealeau, WI, the high overlook from Buena Vista State Park and the pedestrian overpass at the Lock and Dam in Alma WI as well as a city park and overlook at Stockholm WI. There are some scenes showing locals switching industries along the line. One scene includes a SOO Line caboose at Bay City WI that is being set up as part of an ice cream shop...even if they get modified a bit, it is nice to see those old relics of days gone by being put to use for the benefit of the general public! Many BNSF and predecessors BN and ATSF paint scheme are seen, as well as some run-through power from CN, CSX, UP and some leasers are shown. Several trains are shown crossing the St Croix River lift bridge at Prescott WI.
<p>The photography in this video is crystal clear and sharp. Glare from locomotive cab windows is minimal. Most of the runbys are shot fairly close to the track due to the limited space along the river bank. That is the way you would see it if you were there. The kids will like this video for the loud whistles and fast moving trains. Railfans will enjoy seeing most trains shown in their entirety. Markers for each train include the train symbol as well as the origin and destination, and there are location markers for some of the trains.
