It's 225 miles from New York's Penn Station to Washington's Union Station. The slowest train on the line takes a little over 4 hrs, with 5 stops in between today. That's a fairly good speed for a long distance train (the Silver Star and the Silver Meteor), just 2 of the trains which are witnessed on this movie.
Pentrex captures all the action from rail side at Penn Station to Union Station. It's high speed passenger service at it's best. There are multiple trains from various companies. Amtrak, NJT, SEPTA, MARC, etc... and even a few Conrail locals are seen. Tour the stations along the way - Penn Station, Philadelphia, Washington and so much more. We see track side and station views with trains passing at 125 mph. Explainations of the engines and who built them. Mainly electrics, but a few diesels along the way. Time is spent in Washington's and New York's control centers. And even a cab ride is thrown in. And not forgotten is a few remaining towers still operating at the time of the video production.
In 2004, I rode the Silver Star and the Silver Meteor on this entire stretch of rails, and very little has changed. Washington's Union Station is absolutely beautiful. The video brought back to life the experiences of those fine trips. I enjoyed see the trains passing from rail side over long bridges that I was able to witness from the train as I sat in the diner car.
Pentrex has done a fantastic job bringing us this excellent production. It will be a favorate for years to come. No disappointments with the purcahse of this high rated video.

Interesting slice of the Northeast Corridor history. Especially liked the insights and behind-the-scenes views of dispatching and tower operations.

This is a top-notch trackside action video. The scenes of the Metroliners and other high-speed Amtrak trains are fabulous. The sheer volume of fast-moving trains is more than enough to keep you interested from beginning to end.
Ok, it's a bit out-of-date, as there are no Acela or HHP-8 engines or bi-level MARC cars, but it shouldn't deter you from getting this video. Not only do you see Amtrak, but there is footage of several commuter systems, including PATH, LIRR, SEPTA,MARC and WMATA. How much better can it get for the electric passenger fan?

This was a great video. Pentrex received permission to videotape trains in areas that would otherwise be off limits to railfans. Additionally, Pentrex takes viewers along for a high speed cab ride in an AEM-7. The footage was beautiful! By the end of both volumes you'll be asking for more. Plus you get both volumes on a combo disk for the price of one- how can you beat that? This video is the next best thing to actually being there!

I use Amtrak sometimes to go to Washinmgton DC or Philadelphia.

More passenger train action than you would believe. The first program deals with trains leaving Penn Station in NYC and covers the line to Philadelphia. Some amazing views of working interlocking towers that are probably gone by now. I've never seen anything so antiquated in the "A" tower that handles all the traffic in and out of Penn Station. I've probably taken hundreds of trains through that station. To think my trains were routed through this point is astonishing and to be honest, a little scary!

The second part features Philadelphia to Washington DC and a pretty neat cab ride towards the end. About 20 minutes worth. Pretty satisfying I'd say.

A really great DVD and great for anyone that likes high speed passenger trains, electric and diesel locomotives, cab rides, interlocking tower tours, and rickety old double-slip switches!

What's most interesting is that a lot has probably changed on the NEC since this video was made in 1992. You can see the incorporation of concrete ties and welded rail, but the system is undoubtedly all CETC now.
