Railroads are exciting, be it long distance mainline freights working hard up a hill, yard switchers doing their daily duties, high speed Amtrak or VIA Rail passengers flying by, or city commuter service. In this video we are treated to the sights of Chicago's Metra. We up close the operations of many of the lines serving the city, running from the downtown to the suburbs. We are able to see the electric operations, and the diesel, main lines and branch lines, shared lines with the freight railroads. The narration is very good, explaining the details as to how a commuter service of this size runs efficiently. Moving people, a lot of people is the main goal of commuter service, and that is what Chicago's Metra does so well. Any one who views this video will truly enjoy it. It does a wonderful job of the details of a part of railroading that so many people take for granted and never consider. Definitely a "must have" video for all.

This is one of the best programs Railway Productions has ever produced! This is a comprehensive look at Chicago's commuter rail system, Metra. All of the Metra lines are covered in detail in this program as well as the Metra system itself with very-informative narration on those subjects although there have been changes to the Metra system because of line extensions and new locomotives as this program was produced in the early 2000s.
In addition, this program is definitely produced in cooperation with Metra because there are interviews with Metra employees and spokespeople and tower operators as well as the maintenance personnel at the Zephyr Pit and the Rocket House. Furthermore, the cameraman was able to visit locations not accessible to the general public including the Zephyr Pit, Rocket House, Tower A2, and EVEN Metra's headquarters in Downtown Chicago where the Metra employees give announcements to the people riding Metra!
Overall, this program is a MUST for any rail enthusiast's collection!

A good all round production with clear pictures and informative narrative. As a would-be Metra modeller based some over 4000 miles away, I cannot get enough detail of the trackside locations and would therefore have preferred less of the maintenance detail and more shots of the locations and interface with freight running. Nevertheless, it proves a good value product worthy of recommendation.
