Since Britain's railways privatised there are now lots of colorful paint schemes. we checked out London's main line stations to see what was new, including Eurostar, the Channel Tunnel train, and spent a day at Clapham Junction, Britain's busiest railway station, with loads of non stop action, including a steam excursion. Lots of different companies, incluing Gatwick Express, First Great Eastern, Connex, First Great Western, Great North Eastern, Midland Trains, Silverlink, Freightliner, Virgin Trains and lots more.

Highball produced at least 10 colorful trains DVDs for various cities around the world, circa 2000. I have seen and I can recommend those for London, Tokyo, Vienna, and Zrich. However, London is probably the best because: (1) Highball is on their home turf; and (2) The proliferation of privatized service operators with distinctive liveries after 1998 truly made Londons trains colorful. The 2-hour disc makes a counter-clockwise circuit of London, covering lines from the terminals at Fenchurch Street, Liverpool Street, Kings Cross, St. Pancras, Euston, Paddington, Victoria, and Waterloo. We see many, many long-distance passenger trains, commuter trains, branch-line passenger locals, carload and intermodal freights, the Eurostar to Paris, the London Underground where it coordinates with the main lines, and even a steam excursion. Lots of station scenes, too. It adds up to an indelible impression of vital rail transport. Photography, picture, and sound are magnificent. Narration is satisfactory but a bit on the skimpy side. I wish they had also included trains from Marylebone station (located between Euston and Paddington) and shown us some of the sleeping car trains to and from Scotland. Conversely, they did not need to show quite so many [similar-looking] trains at Clapham Junction (intersection of the lines from Victoria and Waterloo, said to be the worlds busiest).
