Ride along with photographer Maynard Laing as we enjoy his 16mm films of a journey to Western Canada in 1957. You'll see places like the CN yard at Port Mann, and the CP Drake Street yard in the Vancouver area. Also locations like Coquitlam and Chilliwack see steam action as well as CN activity in Kamloops with roundhouse, switching and steam departures. Then we head to the prairies for more Canadian National and Canadian Pacific action. You enjoy servicing shots and turntable scenes at several locations. Locomotives seen on the Canadian National include 0-6-0, 2-8-0, 2-8-2, 2-10-2, and 4-8-2. Canadian Pacific locomotives include 4-6-0, 4-6-2, 2-8-2, 2-10-2, and 4-6-4. While there was no audio recorded during 1957, we have merged appropriate CN and CP steam sounds from 1958 and 1959 trips recorded by Elwin Purington. There are even some of the same locomotives and classes, so sounds are quite authentic sounding. There is a nice variety of activity from pacing CN 2-10-2 #4301 west from Kamloops, to CP G3, and C5 Pacifics. Of the three Canadian films this one has more roundhouse and servicing scenes. These are truly historic steam treasures that will be enjoyed by all steam and historic railroad enthusiasts. A must for any steam lover. - Greg Scholl Video Productions

This Soon to be 60 year old films are a unique treasure to any rail fan or a must have as this along with the '58 & '59 videos are Greg's Favorites. There are some Modern footages from Greg Himself, Which includes stock footage from October 1993 with 1286 & 1238 (From Great Steam Trains 3), And a Short October 1999 Visit to the Ohio Central Railroad with 1293. Who Knows what would happen in the future when Greg creates an Ohio Steam Spectacular Sequel, With all of the Steamers that were shot from the 1990's?
Additional remarks by Steamboy: Narration:Just enough. Would kids enjoy this?Maybe. Image quality:Good. DVD Value:Overpriced for the amount of enjoyment I got out of it. Recommend to others?Yes.
