Enjoy powerful diesel locomotives battle the rugged southwestern U.S. as Union Pacific heads west over the Caliente Subdivision. This 240 mile section runs between Milford, Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada. Its a major portion of Union Pacific's route between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. The geography on both sides of the town of Caliente is fascinating as our cameras take you to the Meadow Valley Wash and the Clover Creek Canyon. Each is rugged territory with many tunnels and small bridges. The action is nonstop with all types of revenue freight. You'll watch a ballast work train, then later hop aboard the front of the locomotive for a different view as you see some of the tunnels of Clover Creek Canyon. You'll see hotshot doublestacks that require pushers on the eastbound 2% grade east of Caliente, and you'll see Amtrak's Desert Wind, which no longer operates. From desert to canyons you see loads of action including 70 mph pacing scenes and even some winter shots. This is a remote region, that we can bring to you on your TV.
