Watch the dramatic action of two big mainline steam engines operating side-by-side as the feature attraction of the 1991 NRHS convention in Huntington, West Virginia. You'll enjoy the incredible sight of Pere Marquette 2-8-4 #1225 on a passenger train, running pilot to pilot with a similar engine, Nickel Plate 2-8-4 #765. We covered the whole event which includes 1225 and 765 doubleheading on a freight from Lima to Cincinnati, from Cincinnati to Huntington on another freight along the CSX (former C&O), and the convention trips. Also in attendance was Norfolk and Western Class A #1218 which operated a round-trip excursion from Kenova to Portsmouth, Ohio, and another one from Kenova to Iaeger, West Virginia on the former N&W line. The side-by-side trip with 1225 and 765 is covered with scenes from 4 different videographers. One was on the train, two were linside, and we obtained footage from a TV cameraman who was in the cab of 1225 during one of the runbys. This is an awesome spectacle, and no exaggeration! The following day we see the pair doublehead the train to Hinton and through the New River Gorge. For diesel fans there is also a few minutes of the last Western Maryland lettered diesel GP40 #6573 on a circle tour of Huntington. These 1218 trips also turned out to be the last ones 1218 made west of Roanoke, as 1218 ran for the last time a few months later. This is one of our personal favorite videos, as the side-by-side and whole event was special.

Big steam at it's best!! If you like superpower steam this is a must have for your collection. Some of the best video available of the Pere Marquette 1225 and the Nickel Plate 765. The only downside of this video is the knowledge the 1218 may never run again. Shame on the NS!
