While the majority of this program was recorded in April & may of 1991, the Mt. rainier scenic segment with porter built 2-8-2 number 5 was shot in October of 1990 during a side trip from both the Southern pacific 4449 & the inaugural run of Spokane Portland & Seattle 700 Washington central steam fest weekends. Not only was Greg there to capture the doubleheader of 844 & 3985 to Salt Lake City from Cheyenne, as well as the once largest operating Steam engines journey to McCammon Idaho, but also pentrex, & green frog productions for the entire Union Pacific trips which is less than a year after 3985 was converted to oil. During a trip to the Durango & silverton, this visit would mark the last time that 497 Have ever ran on D&S rails which would later be swapped with a silent 482 that did return to operate in 1992. The Sunday May 5 special on the C&TS with 488 are shown during production of steam rotary as some scenes with 487 & rotary OY are also included. Besides Greg himself, pentrex, railway productions, & Gandy dancer productions were also there for the return of the snowplow on rio grande narrow gauge tracks. |
