N7W's J Class steam engine was second to none. When in the navy I road behind one of the 600 many times and one returned me home after my tour was over. I never thought they would ever be replaced by a diesel. I can truthly say when a passerager was passing I always had to stop and watch. I'm even angry with the N7S from removingg them from the once a year run through Portsmouth. This one is probably my personal favorite N&W 611 movie. From 1982 to 1994, she pulled trains along the old N&W Cincinnati Line where the Scholl family used to live there in the 50s between Cincinnati & Columbus, Ohio. September 21, 1994 was the last time 611 used the wye at Portsmouth, as there is no direct connections between the two cities and she has be turned on the wye to head North, and less than 3 months later the railroad decided to cancel the whole program due to major crisis and safety and America was never the same again after December 1994. Extra bonus footage was added in the DVD as part of the lost tape was founded after the original editing. i own a few videos by greg scholl and i really like this one memories of norfolk & western 611 looks at the last 3 years the beloved j operated around the area of Cincinnati ohio until norfolk southern had to end the famed steam program by the end of the 1994 season due to the rise of insurance there's footage of Erlanger Hill in Kentucky south of Cincinnati several different trips including one for the Cincinnati railroad club and 611 on a short fright train and scenes of 611 being turned on the y in Portsmouth ohio there's also footage of sister n&w engine class a 1218 on a small train a little bit after the 1991 nrhs convention that was in Huntington west virginia and there's a talk of how long the engines run in excursion services the 611 operated for over 12 years from august 1982 to December 1994 the 1218 only operated for a short 5 years from April 1987 to November 1991 there's also a extra 14 minutes of footage of 611 on a trip from kenova west virginia to Cincinnati this is a wonderful look in the last years the 611 was running before she was place back into retirement but thanks to the railfans and the Virginia museum of transportation the 611 is ruining once again and hopefully for as long as they can run her (it's unlikely the 1218 may ever run again but one can hope the 1218 could return one day) and also i really like the piano music they put in this video it should be released it's a nice fitting tribute to the j Memories of Norfolk & Western 611 - Greg Scholl Video Productions Steamboy (Revere MA US) on 2016-08-17 13:39:06.

While Majority was shot in the Betacam years (June 1992-September 1994) There was Some JVC Era leftovers with 611 at Ludlow in 1990 In the Opening & Closing Credits, Plus 1218 In August of 1991 heading west on The Peavine line. This was a memorable video to look and I learned some things from it. For example, I learned that 611 ran the Independence Limited of 1992 on the Cincinnati to Portsmouth line westbound. The freight she pulls runs westbound to Cincinnati. She also pulls an eastbound short train when heading east out of Cincinnati but only seen crossing the former Southern Railway bridge over the Ohio River. She is also seen running trips in 1992 and 1994 out of Cincinnati on the old Southern mainline to Danville when leading excursions to and from Danville as well as some excursions to Cincinnati. When it comes to the ferry move and the engine turning on the wye in Portsmouth it hit me hard knowing that this engine would retire in three months. There is also a visitor to the Peavine Line and all I will say is that it occurs right after the 1991 NRHS Convention. The years that 1218 and 611 have operated are gone over before the preview which was then followed by the tape not put in the original editing in 1995 which was a 1993 excursion from Kenova to Cincinnati. It concludes with 611 passing through Peebles after the sun sets and the screen showing the words "Farewell 611." It's hard for me to look at her second retirement because she ran a lot and it all came to an end due to insurance, increasing insurance and safety concerns. Ultimately 611 would return during the 21st Century Steam Program and is still operated by the Virginia Museum of Transportation today. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
