This video was the work of photographer, and former New Haven Railroad employee Tom Donahue, and was also made possible through the New Haven Railroad Historical & Technical Association. The film covers mainly the shore line and its mainline with lots of Electric action. The 8mm film is well preserved, including a 10 minute Black and White section of rare New Haven steam in the 1940's. Then the balance is color and features 1950's era material. A variety of locations along the New York to Boston Shore Line includes such places as: Shore Line Junction, Air Line Junction, Mill River Junction, Woodmont, Devon, Burr Road, Green's Farms, and several locations around the Bridgeport area. Also covered is the Maybrook line including the transition from steam to diesel. Mr. Donahue's towerman's eye view gives a different perspective than our other New Haven video, and it is also very worthwhile. This tape also features a light musical background, and informative narration.

I am so grateful to have a video that contains so much historical footage of the New Haven thanks to Tom Donahue and to Greg Scholl for excellent production. I'm also pleased that there is no dubbed in sound. The narration is very informative and adequate, with pleasing background music. If you are interested in the New Haven Railroad as I am, I highly recommend this video.

This 1992 tape (2007 DVD) features a great variety of early diesels and electrics as well as a mix of some black and white footages from Mr. Donahue including steam in 1940, and the maybrook line in 1951, the second to last year of steam on the NH. Now if only we knew the names the songs featured in this program, despite the interesting synthesizer.

Once Again Greg Scholl trests us to another DVd on the New Haven Railroad. and this DVD has both good and bad points. The good points being some pretty good photography and plenty of mainline action with all sorts of motive power to make the DVD interesting.
However the bad point in the entire DVD aside from several parts of the film being too dark was the music. The DVD notes said background music. Wayyyy tooo much music. Perhaps Mr. Scholl sould have tried to at least add something in the way of railroad sounds to it. Anythign would have been much better than listening to all of that electronic muisc.
New Haven Fans might like this DVD in spite of the music though.
