614 Revival is a program that covers 614 on the Chessie Safety Express excursions in September through November of 1980. Here is a summary of the events:

The history of 614 is detailed extensively from the C&O 4-8-4s in general to the 614 in general.

September 19 features the 614 from Baltimore, MD to Cumberland, MD.

September 20 features the 614 making a roundtrip from Cumberland to Terra Alta, WV and return. The highlight of this day is the climb up 17 Mile Grade.

September 21 features the 614 heading from Cumberland to Pittsburgh, PA. The highlight on this route is Sand Patch Grade. There is even a tunnel on this line that is now gone since it was daylighted in 2011.

October 11 features 614 traveling from Richmond, VA to Balcony Falls, VA via the James River Line.

October 12 has 614 heading from Balcony Falls to Clifton Forge.

On October 13, the 614 heads from Clifton Forge to Huntington. Unfortunately, there were no actual footage; instead there were color slides in this segment.

The New River trips on October 18, 19, 25, and 26. The only days that had footage were October 18 and 26; the other 2 days only had still color images.

October 27 finds 614 heading from Huntington to Cincinnati. There were only color slides on this day.

November 1 and 2 are roundtrip excursions from Cincinnati to Ashland, KY and return. There was footage on this day.

November 4 and 5 featured the 614 returning to Hagerstown, MD from Cincinnati, OH. The first day is from Cincinnati to Grafton. The second day was from Grafton to Hagerstown. The second day is significant since 2 mountain grades are traversed: Newburg Grade and Cranberry Grade. The 614 is able to go up Cranberry Grade with no diesel assist and she puts on a good show!

The main highlights in this program were the mountain passes the 614 had to traverse. On the B&O, she had to traverse 17-Mile Grade, Sand Patch Grade, Newburg Grade, and Cranberry Grade. On the C&O she had to traverse Alleghany Mountain between Clifton Forge and Hinton.

The only downside to this program is the fact that some of the days were only shot with footage while others had only still images because the video recording equipment was down during the course of this program. But this was back in 1980 and the most-modern camera equipment rarely has these kinds of failures.

the picture qulty is pretty avrege for its age but its still watchable.as for the sound if you want to have it play thru your suround system up loud to here the stacktalk working dont do it it sounds exstremly tinny and very echoye.but still a good dvd of 614 to have in your collection.

Lots Of Stills, Music, And Narration From John Edward Hingsbergen (Which He's not listed in the Closing Credits) Plus Rare Historical moments of 614 in Ohio Kentucky & West Virginia That Was Finally Produced During 30 years in the making.
