This is a must have for just about any railfan! There are many fallen flags, cabooses-you can't see those anymore. Busch Stadium and the Gateway Arch can be seen under construction. There's lots of New York Central/Penn Central action as well as Norfolk & Western and Missouri Pacific, and early Amtrak. Many early diesels are featured such as F's, E's, and Alcos. If you want to see railroading in its golden years, this is the DVD to get. St.Louis. Once home to 17 railroads. And one large passenger station. This double feature dvd is one that will be of much interest to those who enjoy the images of first and second generation motive power, and all of the colorful fallen flags that disappeared in the era of consolidation and mergers. The first video, which documents the railroads in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area, features an incredible array of named passenger trains with an equally impressive roster of motive power. Lots of E units are seen as well as geeps and switchers. Uniformly liveried passenger trains as well as early Amtrak 'rainbow' consists are seen throughout. Freights are not forgotten, either. Lots of switching action in and out of St. Louis station keep the interest going. And lastly, a number of shots include the St. Louis Arch, both completed and under construction. One last note - this video is a very good companion to Green Frog's "St. Louis Sojourn." Well, as usual, Pentrex has "issues" understanding the correct way to edit videos for smooth flowing content. The St. Louis section is a little heavy on the Wabash and MP, whereas other RR's are barely mentioned. The Santa Fe section is a hodge podge of stuff, and misidentified trains, and spends too much time explaining what each diesel type is. I think we all know this stuff already and just want to see the movies! The scripting is awful. BUT, the movies are nice and show you a lot of action. Excellent value for money and promptly dispatched to the UK. The St Louis content was by far the better of the two programmes and not to be missed by a fan of the classic diesel era of the 60's and 70s.The Santa Fe was not of the same picture quality and consisted of a series of clips of run-byes that were, nevertheless, informatively linked by commentary. Here is a great look at history in the American mid-west. Lots of different railroad companies showing their power in St. Louis. With a wide variety of power... EMD's, Alcos, GE's... etc... And the Santa Fe also shows so much interesting railroad history as it is seen from New Mexico to Chicago. Excellent video for us to remember the past. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
