"Conquering the Grade"... Catchy title name. Ok, I love to view train videos, so I read the decription given, and the 1st review when it came out, and viewed the preview. My girl friend, a none railfan but a scenery fan did likewise and encouraged me to get this video. Ok, sounds good, like a 'must have', so I ordered it. I already have a large collection of railroad videos and am always interested in more. It is great to see areas on video already owned here on video from different producers as we get a different prospective of areas and regions. The video arrived, we both watched it with interest and we both sat here wondering what was coming next? The video did not excite either one of us. The railroad scenes are basically a repeat of other producers, with little added. The Tehachapi scenes are good, lots of trains and very interesting for railfans, but little is said about the region itself. Colorado/Utah... much was repeat in itself as the videographer appeared to enjoy one area in particular, and really was not that interesting. Montana Rail Link was the best part, and deserved a complete video on it's own. Just not enough time on this video was in Montana. The scenes are good, and the trains are well covered. The scenery is good, with some long distance shots. In the end, I gave the video a rating of 3, mainly because as a railfan the trains themselves were good. But based on actual content of the regions covered even a rating of 2 would be generous.

This is an excellent DVD photography is well done in focus with great angles and lighting. Good narration & sound keep the program interesting, but the greatest feature about this DVD are the scenes of trains gone by. Lots of fantastic shots of pre and post merger Rio Grande, SP and Santa Fe. The Montana Rail Link footage is just fascinating with scenes of there SD70ACe's lashed up with older SD45s, F45s & various Dash-2 locomotives even an SD9 makes an appearance running with the ACe's all in great Montana scenery. There's to much to list "Just get it " A Must Have.
