The Winter of 1993 was extremely tough on almost everyone in the Northeast part of the North American continent. It was especially rough on the railroads. Schedules were only for reference as train crews, dispatchers and gandy dancers worked long hours to clear tracks, rescue stalled trains, and try to keep up some semblance of operation.

Robert McCormack of Hamilton Ontario braved many of these elements to capture some great trains-in-snow action. Green Frog is proud to release this Winter of '93 video production.
Taped with professional broadcast equipment, this video covers the Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Amtrak, CSX, Grand Trunk, Via Rail, and Co Transit. Locations covered include: Alershot, Burlington West, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, Copetown, Dundas, and Bayview Junction...all in the province of Ontario as well as action in New York State.

I remember the winter of 1993. Living 1 1/2 hours northwest of where much of this movie is taped. For 38 straight days, we had to blow the snow to get our vehicles out of the driveway and the truck in to ship our milk. We thought it would never end.
This movie starts as winter is starting, and ends in the same fashion. Footage is from both South Central Ontario and Norhtwestern New York State. There is an interesting variety of power lash ups and various Railroads covered. Give Rob McCormack a lot of credit for the time he spends in some very poor weather conditions.
Winter 93 was a bad year in Southern Ontario for the amounts of snowfall and it's to bad that there is not some footage from the heavy snowbelt region less than an hour west of where much if the movie is taped. It takes a strong person to brave these elements, and Rob has done ann excellent job in temperatures far below 0 in blowing winds. Only fault found was the length of the movie. Wish it had been longer and maybe a little more territory covered.
