"The Old Main Line - Part 2" is the second video in a series surveying the oldest railroad in the Western Hemisphere. Here we follow the railroad west covering the lightly traveled Old Main Line Sub-division to Point of Rocks Station where it joins the more heavily traveled Metropolitan Sub-division. The original Old Main Line went on to Wheeling, West Virginia. We intend to follow the rails west as well. Again, we will use U.S. Geological Survey Maps to help you understand where the tracks run. We will also try our best to show you a complete look at the significant locations and artifacts of a long-lived railroad.

We show you lots of CSX freight trains and MARC passenger trains, but once we reach the Metropolitan Sub you'll see Amtrak Trains as well. So if you want to see trains, lots of trains; come along with us as we survey the oldest railroad in the Western Hemisphere.

BLUE RIDGE PRODUCTIONS spent a couple years chasing trains to bring you the very best in Railfan video. We climbed mountains and bridges. We hiked along the tracks with heavy equipment to find better ways to show you the sights and sounds of modern railroading. WeĆve spent hours and hours editing to bring you these images and clean, exciting stereo sounds of modern railroading. In spite of all this talk of modern railroading, we also tried to find and videotape significant artifacts from the old B&O that are used today to make the CSX right of way solid and serviceable. We've talked with CSX employees, retired B&O and CSX employees, historians and railroad historical society members in our attempt to give you insight into how the railroad was built and runs today (no interviews on tape). Come along with us as we ride

This is the second DVD of a 5-part series covering the Baltimore and Ohio's original main line - the first railroad in North America - from Baltimore MD to Grafton WV. This DVD covers the line from Frederick Junction MD to Harpers Ferry WV. The narrator uses US Geological Survey Topographical Maps to show the location of each scene.

This program starts at Frederick Junction then quickly moves to a local switching a nearby industrial park. We see a CSX Track Geometry Car near Point Of Rocks MD. We see the Ephraim Francis Baldwin designed passenger station at Point of Rocks. Baldwin was the architect for several Baltimore and Ohio stations, including Gaithersburg and Harpers Ferry. He also designed some Baltimore area Catholic churches and institutions. Some of his structures are now on the National Register of Historic Places. Some of the stations are highlighted in this DVD series. Other highlights include Point of Rocks Tunnel, Catoctin Tunnel, the 170+ year old stone Catoctin Viaduct, and an aerial view of Brunswick Yard. We also see a couple quick shots of the historic C&O Canal. The DVD ends with several trains at Harpers Ferry. Note that the single track bridge serving the Shenandoah Valley Sub includes a pedestrian path - a good place to get photos (my observation, not the narrator's).

Narration is good, and the photography is excellent. Sometimes diesel horns over power the video camera's mic. Markers are displayed for most locations. The narrator provides symbols for most trains. Like the other DVDs in this series, the use of topo maps makes this DVD a Must Have for railfans who are visiting the area for the first time. It is also a Must Have for CSX fans.

This was the 1st video from Blue Ridge Productions that I have purchased and I was extremely impressed. The image quality is as good as any producer in the business. The narration is very informative. There are step by step maps along the way that shows exactly where the video is being shot. The theme is followed along the way.
A production well worth the time to view, many times over.
