Since the Pennsylvania Railroad opened its route through the Allegheny Mountains, the line has remained one of North America's busiest mountain passes. Ownership of the line has changed hands several times, but the drama of heavy trains climbing the grade and the engineering feat known as Horseshoe Curve keeps train enthusiasts and photographers coming back!

We visited the region during October in 2016 and 2019 and recorded the action at all the spots including Tyrone, Brickyard, The Curve, Benny, Lilly, Portage, South Fork and more! A decent variety of motive power and trains, along with beautiful autumn colors! Informative narration will not dominate the live audio, but will give you the story about the trains that you see!

Broken Knuckle has been pretty quiet as of late, so I was happy to see this release. If you are a fan of NS's Pittsburgh Division, as am I, this will give you plenty of action (3.5 hours), primarily shot at the usual locations (Tyrone, the Brickyard, Horseshoe Curve, Lilly, etc.). What I really enjoyed about this release was that the first half gives us a look at action from 2016, as well as 2019. The contrast is somewhat evident in motive power, as we start to see the phasing out of the SD40E helpers in the second disc, along with the running of DC-conversion engines, a few shown in their distinctive paint schemes. A wide variety of trains are shown, with a few Heritage units running in different seasons. Broken Knuckle does a good job highlighting the fall colors, and the narration is informative and relevant to the footage. One area that I was a little disappointed in was the BR conversion, as it was hard to tell any difference in parts of the dvds. Not a major complaint, but more of an observation. Overall, a nice release that provides a ton of trains, multiple meets, and satisfactory videography.
