At the Throttle, Vol. # 2. is a continuation of Vol. # 1. Starting from roughly where Vol. # 1 stops, the producers take us up the Cajon Subdivision. Similar to Vol. # 1, the camera is mounted to the front of the the engine, with the sound speakers at the camera. We hear all the sounds of the train, and the passing trains as it is on the out side of the cab. Narration is limited, and there are no in cab sounds heard. So, once again, the view we get is slightly different from what the cab crew would have. The make up of the 2 volumes is basically the same. However, for the viewers, there are differences. The territory covered is a rural scene, through the famous Cajon Sub. We get to see a much different look at Cajon than ever before. Adding to the interest is that the 3rd line was under construction at the time we are treated to this view point. From a general interest point of view, this is a better production than Vol. # 1. Again, it would have been nice to see different angles of photography, but with the more scenic views, more curvacur in the railroad, the overall makeup is worth the value. This video will highly complement any other Cajon Sub. video. I would recommend this to other rail fans, keeping in mind that the video is once again 'straight ahead viewing'. An excellent video of big-time railroading that happens to also capture a major line improvement project underway. The level of narration is just right - no cab chatter of static-filled radio transmissions. One of the most interesting things about this footage is that the construction of the third line was well underway, with excavation and leveling work between Keenbrook and Cajon quite significant. Count the number of semi-trailers lined up to take the excavated rock out of the area! At the Throttle Cab Ride V2 The Cajon Subdivision Devore to Barstow DVD Bilborailways on 2010-01-12 05:11:25.
Superb Railroad DVD ~ very informative ~ would prefer to see a shot of the train itself at some point in which the cab ride was shot from ~ just to relate to it in my own mind. Really enjoying American Trains from across the pond in UK. At the Throttle Cab Ride V2 The Cajon Subdivision Devore to Barstow DVD rob on 2009-09-28 03:13:00.
How about more shots inside the cab of the workings of the engine and of the crew for us engineer "wanna-be's" to see what is involved in managing these giants as well as some conversation with the crew. Also, explain/interpret the block signal system. And, I would show what the consist of the train is such as what power is running it and what its hauling. It was an OK video but I think some people would get bored with it real quick without the above changes. BEWARE this video is missing a entire portion because they run out of memory in the camcorder & DID NOT stop the train. That means naturally the train keeps going but there is NO video for what I estimate is 5/10 miles At the Throttle Cab Ride V2 The Cajon Subdivision Devore to Barstow DVD big mike on 2009-02-28 15:39:21.

Good video, but, we don't get to go through Sullivans curve which I hoped we would. The train is slow going up the hill so I used ff2 to speed up the film.Hope they can video tape going through Sullivans curve and the new work areas in an updated version. |
