BEWARE this video is missing a entire portion because they run out of memory in the camcorder & DID NOT stop the train. That means naturally the train keeps going but there is NO video for what I estimate is 5/10 miles At the Throttle Cab Ride V1 Los Angeles to San Bernardino DVD big mike on 2009-02-28 15:45:31.

Good video that shows the route,But, Pentrex didn't count for a film change later in the trip,10 miles of the route is not shown.Does it take 10 miles of movement to change film? At the Throttle Cab Ride V1 Los Angeles to San Bernardino DVD rrvideoman on 2009-02-11 07:42:02.

As a rail fan, I am often found near the tracks somewhere, camera and scanner in hand. I see the trains from a view point off railway property, as the giant machines glide by. As a non-railroad employee, I never see the view that the head end crew gets. This video shows us what is seen by the crew looking straight ahead. Miles of endless track. The camera, mounted on the front, with the sound system as well, we hear all the outside sounds of the traveling train and passing trains. Narration is limited, and there are no 'in the cab sounds'. So the view point of this video is actually slightly different than that of what the crew has even. This video is based primarily in the Metropolitan Los Angeles region, ending with a short trip on to the Cajon Sub. As a result, most of the video is in an urban area, with little scenery, in locations many railfans would not recognize. A little more narration, and maybe some different camera angles would have added to the interest in this video. Although I would recommend this video, it is with a note of caution.... remember the subject matter and location when considering a purchase. For this video, the viewer needs to be interested in single angle photography... straight ahead. Straightforward outside the cab ride video. I am a model railroader so the trackside details seen along the right-of-way I can incorporate in details on my layout. At the Throttle Cab Ride V1 Los Angeles to San Bernardino DVD Air2k757 (Texas) on 2012-07-17 12:03:28.
The other volumes of this series are much better and worth the money. At the Throttle Cab Ride V1 Los Angeles to San Bernardino DVD Guy (Escondido, CA) on 2011-11-05 16:28:11.
I think this DVD is great -and there is room for improvement in the narration. It would have been nice to see the train consist and know the tonnage and length of the train. The narration could have been more accurate. At one point the narrator says the engineer keeps the train speed down because of an expected long wait at Fullerton. After viewing the DVD several times I looked at the signal aspects and that is why the train speed is down. And there is no indication as to how long it sat at Fullerton. Then there is the missing 4 miles when the camera ran out. Other than that I loved the DVD. I would recommend it. A very professionally produced, high quality presentation that gives on the feeling of really being along for the ride. Could possibly use a bit more narration to point out some of the places and sights passed along the way but maybe not all prefer that as I would. Update! This video is boring for the following reasons, 1.SLOW moving train during the video, I suggest you FF-2 to speed up the video. 2. scenery is lacking, just industrial areas.3. You could get bored just watching the slow progress of this train, I couldn't watch this for a long time at once. Children will be bored for this reason. Again the photographer doesn't show the train we're on, the consist should be shown at the start. |
