Into The Allegheny Range Volume 2 Cumberland DVD 4.7 of 5 (3)
Cumberland, Maryland Over 150 years ago, the B&O Railroad reached Cumberland, located strategically at the eastern base of the Allegheny Mountains, and constructed a large terminal there to support operations over its two legendary grades: the West End and Sand Patch.
In 1992-1993, Iron Horse America visited Cumberland Terminal to document B&O'ssuccessor, CSX Transportation. The result is an in-depth, inside view of active railroad towers, hump yard operations, the freight car maintenance shop, and the locomotive servicing complex. Interspersed with this detailed look at the terminal, you ll also see bustling mainline action in the town of Cumberland. A variety of trains pass through and are switched at the Baltimore Street Interlocking. At the same time, CSX F-units are preparing an excursion train for a trip over the mountains. You re even treated to a ride behind a steam locomotive as the town celebrates the Terminal's150th Anniversary! You can expect a fascinating tour of B&O'sfamous terminal and a fast-paced conclusion as you visit Cumberland, Maryland in Volume 2 of our Into The Allegheny Range series!

A little bit of everything that CSX had in Cumberland Maryland in the early 1990's. Lots of big heavy freights, on the move and being switched, and at the hump yard. See a tour of the maintenance shops, the locomotive shops, the railroad towers. To add to a great video is an excursion train & a steam locomotive. Really a fine presentation by Iron Horse America and later Pentrex.

As with the other "Into the Allegheny Range" programs, this one is superb! As you can see on the cover, there is still plenty of Chessie units running around. This gives an in depth tour of CSX's operations in Cumberland during the 1990s. You'll also see CSX's F units on an excursion! 5/5

It was originally released on VHS in either 1994 or 1995 to feature a 1992 and 1993 visit to one of the best CSX hotspots in the allegheny mountains. This best selling program throughout this year, features mostly 95% diesels from CSX, MARC, Amtrak and others. But there are 2 short Steam segments in the program. One features LS&I 734 on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad after its 1991-1993 Restoration. And the other being a 18th or 19th century steamer visiting cumberland for the 1992 Railfest.
Additional remarks by STEAMBOY: Narration: Could have used more. Would kids enjoy this? Maybe. Image quality: A little rough around the edges. DVD Value: Good Value Recommend to others? A "Must Have"!
