"Stevens Pass...BNSF Railway's Scenic Subdivision"
Stevens Pass stands at an elevation of 4,061 feet above sea-level in the heart of the Pacific Northwest's Cascade Mountains. Large granite outcroppings tower above the densely forested landscape creating a cool, wet rainforest on the west and semi-arid country on the east. Weaving through this seemingly impassible barrier is a transcontinental railroad connecting the heartland of America with the Pacific Northwest and the Orient.
BNSF Railway utilizes a historic route carved by John F. Stevens over 100 years ago. A continuous parade of long and heavy trains roll back and fourth over the beautiful terrain on what is fittingly named the Scenic Subdivision. 7idea Productions traveled to the State of Washington in May of 2010 to document current operations over this former route of the Great Northern between Everett and Wenatchee. Witness long stack trains crossing beautiful mountain streams, heavy grain trains thundering up 2.2% grades with mid and rear-end DPU's plus Amtrak's Empire Builder on its daily run between Chicago and Seattle. The highlight of the line is the famous 7.8 mile Cascade Tunnel. the longest tunnel in the United States. See how smoke and fumes are flushed out of the tunnel in between trains. Plus recount the 1910 Wellington avalanche which swept two trains off the mountain.
No one ever said mountain railroading was easy and you'll see why in STEVENS PASS...BNSF Railway's Scenic Sub!

This is the envy of other DVD producers like Pentrex. What can you say about the best of the best. If you play this on Bluray with a HD TV you will not have to go there. Fantastic Bluray and seller. Great Combination.

This is another great 5 star DVD from 7Idea. Filmed with the same great quality as their other DVDs. The subject is well covered with great narration, excellent camera work and angles. I own almost all of 7Idea's DVDs and look forward to many more. Simply put this is a must have DVD for the BNSF fan theres plenty of stack and intermodal trains plus some great action covering unit grain trains with DPU helpers, lots of "Swoosh" schemes seen here. Any Rail Buff who loves DVDs full of fantastic photography and narration will enjoy this DVD.

I really like moutainous areas with water falls & big outcropping. the tunnel portion was very intersting on how it got rid of the smoke & fumes. The scenery was great. The history of the avalanche was also very intersting. All & all it is a great DVD, keep up the good work. Thanks very much.

An excellent production - high-quality, wide-screen, crisp image - accompanied by great stereo sound and just the right amount of narration.
The locations selected by the camera crew were fabulous, highlighting not only the trains but also the spectacular scenery.
After seeing the DVD I would love to travel this route!

I would like a little more history or information, or the option to get more info. But I realize that's a personal thing and maybe others don't like that so otherwise it's a well done dvd.

Well done. Bluray really captured the awesome scenery along the route. Narration was very informative and complemented the video nicely. The only thing I missed was more action/angles shot closer to the tracks.

Pros - Great scenery in the mountains and agricultural areas of western Washington. Many scenes captured at upclose angles. Many helper unit trains included. Narration was very good with many non-railroad facts included. Cons - Several camera shakes when engines pass, one scene shot through a dense stand of trees, one night train captured in heavy rain and one amateur zoom-in on a trailing unit should've all been removed during editing.
