For more than half a century, Union Pacific's Big Boy 4014 was on display in Pomona, CA. In 2013, Union Pacific began the process to move and restore it back into excursion service, which would make 4014 the ultimate rolling museum as it showcases UP in its finest era. But before that can happen, the massive 4-8-8-4 would have to be moved from its resting spot at the RailGiants Train Museum in Southern California to Cheyenne, WY where UP bases its steam power.

Plenty of work was required to get the big locomotive on the move, from the temporary snap track across a huge parking lot to getting it back on the mainline. Several stops were made along the way to inspect the Big Boy. Both the media and large crowds of fans took part in this historic event. Pentrex covered this extraordinary move throughout much of Southern California.

Big Boy 4014 Update will show the tireless steam crew erecting the temporary track across the parking lot. Watch 4014 as it's towed by a front-end loader under the watchful eye of the steam crew. Witness the moment when a UP diesel coupled onto the tender of 4014 to the delight of cheering crowds. Towed by modern diesel power, many great runbys were made as the train began its journey to Cheyenne. Several meets with opposing freight traffic were also made on Cajon Pass.

Come join Pentrex in watching history unfold in Big Boy 4014 Update!

Ok. I know this latest 60 minute show, is one of the best selling pentrex products of their 30th anniversary. But they forgot to add one thing on the dvd menu. Yep you guessed it! NO CHAPTER SELECTIONS!!! Does your copy of that program have that error as well?

honestly anything about 4014 is good to see but I feel the actual video quality was not up to their usual standards. There was a lot of fuzziness in some shots and framerate jitter.
would I recommend it to people?
I sure would, well worth the money and enjoyable.
Additional comments:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: A little rough around the edges.

Interesting program on the movement of this locomotive from the display grounds to the mainline. Nice scenes of the train moving along with the Big Boy. Would have been nice if they followed the train all of the way to Cheyenne.

This video is the beginning of the Big Boys journey back to steam. Shot in November 2013 and April 2014, Union Pacific began considering to return Big Boy 4014 to operating condition since it was the best shape of the 8 surviving Big Boys. Trains magazine crew was also on hand for the historic moment. Wish pentrex couldve shown a little more coverage on 4014 restoration but overall was good and I also wish they had chapters menu like they did before. Still a great video to enjoy.
Additional comments:
Narration: Could have used more.

An interesting release covering at least the removal from the park and the move in California. You can only get so much from a series of runbys, so perhaps it is just as well that Pentrex did not cover all of the route, but I believe not covering the arrival in Cheyenne was a serious error. Still, it's better than no coverage at all.
