This program covers the following activities that occur in the year 1988:

Cotton Belt 819 on a 3-day roundtrip from Pine Bluff, AR to Tyler, TX in November. Day 1 is from Pine Bluff to Texarkana, Day 2 is Texarkana to Tyler, and Day 3 is Tyler to Pine Bluff.

CSX F-Units on the Roadrailer. One of the interesting highlights of this segment is that on Day 1, the last trailer on the train derailed.

Eastern Canada. This is the highlight of this program in my opinion as they covered an area that is not normally seen from other railroad producers. This segment starts in Toronto, Ontario and continues east through Montreal, Quebec; Moncton, New Brunswick; and end this segment in Halifax, Nova Scotia with many stations between these points visited along the way. In addition, this program has several VIA Rail Canada trains in addition to freight trains including the now-gone Atlantic making a stop in Moncton although Moncton is still served by the Ocean.

Union Pacific 3985 on an excursion between Cheyenne and Laramie, WY with plenty of photo runbys.

A 3-day excursion in Mexico. Day 1 begins at Nogales and ends at Cananea, Day 2 begins at Cananea and ends at Nacozari, and Day 3 starts the return trip back to Nogales.

A brief visit to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in October.

Another great success from Pentrex. "Best of 1988" is a high-quality production worthy of multiple viewings. I especially enjoyed the Cotton Belt 819 segment....I've long been a fan of that Pine Bluff-built steam locomotive (and dream that it can one day return to service). The footage included here is quite different from what I've seen in other videos featuring this magnificent locomotive.

The first 27 minutes feature 819 from pine bluff to Tyler and back In november despite the broken whistle. Next comes the early CSX roadrailer trains with a mix of chessie system and B&O units on the first day, and f units 116-119 the next day. Not only it was popular for rail fans in the 80s it was unusual that Greg Scholl shot the f-units in that time period. This segment ran for 10 minutes. At the 36-37 minute mark, we head north to Canada for lots of unique diesels on both freight and passenger operations in August as they roll in and out of downtown Toronto, Brockville with the last semaphore signal at the station, some CP freights at Pointe-claire, with the first one hauling a dead doodlebug in the consist, the second with SOO line, and a GO commuter in pushing mode with f-7 1304, and many more locations as well. Not to mention the short lived interurban coaches at portal heights. This segment was also long in this pentrex program. At the 64 minute mark, Union pacific challenger 3985 operated an excursion from Cheyenne to Laramie over Sherman hill. Keeping mind that this was way before 3985 converted to number 5 oil. At Laramie, we see the f-units on the short-lived Wyoming and Colorado railroad.12 minutes later at the 76 minute mark, we head south of the border to view more foreign diesels complete with a ride on board. Finally at the 95 minute mark we are back home for more steam action on the Cumbres & Toltec.
