This program covers the following activities that occur in the year 1984:
The Speno Rail Grinder in the Mojave Desert east of Barstow.
The Southern Pacific Olympic Unit arriving in Los Angeles.
Union Pacific's Feather River Canyon. One of the highlights in this segment is a derailment that has occured at Pulga. Footage of the derailment can also be seen in another program "Union Pacific's Feather River Route".
Cajon Pass. Although this program had nearly all freight trains, there was one appearance of Amtrak's Desert Wind which could be easily identified due to the short consist behind the train unlike the Southwest Chief which had a much longer consist.
Private car trip from Oakland to Denver which is a misnomer as it is really a ride on private cars "Yerba Buena" and "Louisa" behind Amtrak #6, the California Zephyr. Scenic highlights include Donner Pass and other terrain that the Zephyr passes through.
Scenes and outtakes from "The Alaska Railroad"
Scenes and outtakes from "By Daylight to the Fair"
One big negative about this program which was remedied in the later "Best Of" series is that there is extremely little and non-frequent narration. In fact, the Feather River Canyon, The Alaska Railroad, and the Daylight segments have no narration whatsoever and in the other segments, there is one to two segments of narration but nothing more.

From Humble Beginnings, this was the one of the very first pentrex videos ever made. Sadly all of the Videos are being merged and moved from Passadena all across the heartland to Indianapolis.

Image quality: Good.
Value: Seemed a little high.
