Few railroad passenger vehicles have had as long a lifespan as the Budd Rail Diesel Car. Introduced in 1949, these unique self-powered passenger cars have plied the rails for nearly three-quarters of a century, providing economical service for railroads nationwide.

With the downturn of rail passenger traffic after World War II, the RDC was the right product at the right time. It reduced passenger losses on branch lines and then played a major role in commuter service in the Northeast region of the United States.

This documentary-style DVD from Rich Luckin:

Traces the history of these unique vehicles
Follows along all the way through to today's current operations
Includes interviews with engineers who operated RDC's, as well as passengers
And more!

There are some really great things in this DVD. Some great images and footage of past (and present) RDC Operations and history. A lot of great information.

But the delivery sucks in many cases. Some narration, even though they're presented by "rail historians" - as knowledgeable as they might be - don't belong in a DVD. Some of it sounds very awkward to listen to, with pacing and dialogue.

Additionally, there are often multiple narrators that repeat many things. "This is a Budd RDC, called a Rail Diesel Car" was heard from about five or six different people when they started speaking. Quite a bit of information was repeated by multiple narrators/historians unnecessarily.

One narrator (with some interview segments) - one that sounds more comfortable with speaking, less like they're reading awkwardly from a page - would make this DVD MUCH more bearable and much more recommendable.

Additional remarks by BigJim4Life:
Narration: A little bit too much.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? Not unless they REALLY were interested in the subject matter.
