Anyone who has read my reviews re 7Idea Productions knows that I am very high on them. They are probably my favorite producer. That said, I was disappointed with this disc. Compared to Highball Productions' (for which I have a luke warm opinion, at best) "Canada's Canyon - CN & CP Along the Thompson and Fraser" 7Idea comes off second best (though I will keep both). Highball went from Hope, BC to Kamloops Lake, BC, while 7Idea only went from Hope to Lytton. (Yes, I know this was disclosed on the product description on this website.) 7Idea hinted that they would cover Lytton to Kamloops Lake in a subsequent production (which I will buy if it comes out).

Left Coast Rail Videos also has a disc covering this same topic ("CN & CP Along the Thompson & Fraser Rivers") which isn't even in the same league with either 7Idea or Highball. I discarded LCRV's product some time ago.

7Idea was essentially a series of runbys, many in snowy conditions, which grew tiresome. They did show many of the especially scenic spots but others were barely mentioned/shown. There were, for my tastes, too many falling snow scenes which obscured much of the beauty of the scenes, and there was continuing jumping from summer scenes to winter scenes, and back. I found it very disconcerting. One can't find so much as a snowflake in the Highball product.

This canyon has CN & CP sharing one another's tracks on opposite sides of the River so that all eastbound traffic runs on CN rails and westbound traffic on CP rails. Both yracks for both RRs is divided into two sub divisions for each. This makes it difficult to keep track of what is where. While this isn't the fault of the videographer, 7Idea was continually jumping from one side to the other (more so than Highball) so I often couldn't keep track of where we were.

To top it off, 7Idea's disc contained 13, yes THIRTEEN, previews. I understand the need for previews and the selling of the product, but THIRTEEN? - And, I have them all. (I have every Blue Ray 7 Idea has produced.)

Except for the reduced visibility caused by the falling snow, the narrative and camera work was the usual high quality one expects from 7Idea.

Beautiful Scenery for sure, but wish this program, could have been shot in 2008, when the Motive Power, would have been more interesting, Wide Screen HD became available in 2006. Mostly modern day Motive power, with two shots of Cowl units, one distant, and one of an ex. BC Rail C40-8M coming right at you. A very good show for sure.

I love railfaning the Fraser River Canyon, fantastic scenery and the CN and CP look great working there trains through the Canyon......This latest DVD from 7Idea is Fantastic and does a great job of showing the rail action in the Canyon in all four seasons. It follows the CN and CP from Hope BC to Lytton BC where the Fraser River and the Thompson River split and go different ways, a wide variety of power and trains are seen including CN's newest Tier 4 Gevo's...... I got a Blu-Ray copy so the photography is outstanding along with informative narration, maps and graphics make this a (Must Have) DVD for anyone who is a fan of modern day CN, CP and Rocky Mountaineer or just likes great quality train chasing DVD's. A+++++
