This DVD shows Union Pacific's former Denver & Rio Grande Western mainline between Helper and Provo, Utah is a great place to watch trains.

Running over the Wasatch Mountains and Soldier Summit, this is a heavy-duty railroad with many maximum tonnage trains.

In this program, you'll see trains of the Union Pacific, Utah Railway, BNSF, and Amtrak as they climb up and over this twisting mountain railroad. This is a coal line, and you'll see some Utah Railway trains with as many as 10 units-4 on the front, with 6-unit manned helpers!

Enjoy action at all the great locations, including Helper, the tunnels at Nolan and Kyune, Summit, the Gilluly Loops, Thistle and much more!

Running time approx. 90 minutes. DVD includes chapter menus and the ability to turn the narration on or off.

This is a widescreen presentation (16:9). It will play just fine on an old-style TV (4:3), being shown in letterbox.

Shot with high-end broadcast equipment. Great railroading and a great picture. What more could you want. Order yours today!

This is Union Pacific's former Denver & Rio Grande Western line through the Wasatch Mountains between Helper and Provo Utah. This is a line with heavy coal unit trains running through some of the fantastic southwestern scenery. And it is in 16x9 Widescreen format!

This video opens with a short but interesting history of this line with historic B&W photos. As do many railroad videos, the route is shown on a map, but this one has a nice improvement – instead of a colored line on a plain background, this video uses Google Earth to show the actual terrain. The video starts out at Helper UT and works it's way west to Provo. Along with the Union Pacific, Amtrak, BNSF and the Utah Railway are featured. The UTRY coal trains use as many as 6 manned mid-train helpers (including their 5000hp Caterpillar powered MK5000Cs). And it is not unusual to see 3 or more big EMD or GE ACs on the point, 3 more mid-train and one or more pushing on the rear end of UP trains (I can't get enough of those SD90MACs!)! The grades on this line reach a hefty 2.5% in the Price River Canyon west of Castle Rock.

Scenic highlights include Castle Rock, the Nolan Tunnels, Kyune Tunnels, the Gilully Loops, and the Thistle Tunnels, which were bored through Billie's Mountain during the reroute following the 1983 Thistle UT mudslide.

If you are looking for fast-paced action, look elsewhere – the only fast movement in this video is the cars and 18-wheelers seen on nearby US Route 6. As I have come to expect, Les Jarrett's photography is crisp and clear, the best there is. Narration is informative and minimal, but there are no location or train symbol markers.

Additional remarks by armchairrailfan:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Excellent Value!
Recommend to others? A "Must Have"!
