The Feather River is always interesting and this video is no exception. Excellent photography portrays all the main features of the route including the spectacular Keddie Wye. Yet another Pentrex spectacular, the older locos and stock adding to the enjoyment. Union Pacifics Feather River Route DVD NewRailFan on 2009-08-20 13:46:57.

Very well done in all points of narration, picture quality, sound, etc. Glad theses DVD's from Pentrex, at least the ones I have, are not cluttered with music. Just the train "music" is great. "Points of interest" in the narration are very interesting to listen to. IE history of the railroad in the picture, little bits of humor, etc. Union Pacifics Feather River Route DVD chris collins (fletcher north carolina) on 2018-02-26 21:16:00.

in 1991 pentrex filmed action of union pacific trains working in the feather river canyon of the former western pacific they are plenty of older locomotive models of the up that were in service during that period there's even a vist to the western pacific railroad museum in Portola even bonus footage of a train in a derailment in the canyon in the 80s as the crew struggles to re rail the train if you like the up or there older locomotives you'll love this video Union Pacifics Feather River Route DVD RPS on 2009-10-21 10:33:50.

This DVD provides a brief chronological review of the line from Oroville to Portola plus a few shots of the High Line. The main scenic hotspots are covered, sometimes using camera locations that may not be allowed today. But as the film is nearly 20 years old the picture quality is not up to modern camerawork, which rather detracts from the beauty of the locations. The most interesting aspects for me were the coverage of the Portola museum, including runs of vintage motive power, and the bonus shots showing efforts to recover a derailed train at Pulga. With a Great Variety of Diesels from the Older 3000 Series SD40-2s, to the 9000 Series Standard Cab C40-8s, this recently turned 30 Year old videotape on a recently turned 15 year old DVD is a neat way to experience in Northeast California, especially when the Town of Portola had its railroad days parade with a visit to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum. The Bonus de-rail segment was taken from one of Pentrex's Very first titles: the Best of 1984. Union Pacifics Feather River Route DVD rrvideoman on 2007-08-11 07:57:16.
I found this movie to be interesting, but I always seemed to to waiting for 'something more'. What is covered is interesting, but I thought, based on what I've heard and read on Feather River I would be more excited than I was of the region. It appeared that the producers may have tried to compact to territory. Considering the area with the scenery, I expected more that was in the movie. |
