Union Pacific's main between Council Bluffs and North Platte and O'Fallons is a 100 to 150 train-a-day show. Unit coal trains with UP or CNW power keep the Powder River Basin product moving. Coal isn't the only traffic moving on the Overland Route, we'll also see fast intermodal and the variety of manifest freights.

In Volume 1 of this two part look at the Council Bluffs Sub, we follow the mainline west from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Shelton, Nebraska. A variety of trains keep our cameras busy as we pass through Omaha, Fremont and Columbus on our way to Grand Island and Shelton.
