STREAMLINERS! The look captured the imagination of the nation. The name represented luxury, glamour, and mobility. Streamliners epitomized a new world of modern living, symbolizing style and technical evolution in the ongoing fulfillment of the American Dream.

Pentrex is proud to present this comprehensive tribute to the streamliners of the Union Pacific, utilizing material from the archives of the Union Pacific Historical Society, much of which has never before been seen. Three years in the making, this production offers a detailed look at the development and evolution of Union Pacific passenger trains from 1934 to 1971. UP"s streamliners spring to life with fantastic images:
  • America"s first streamlined train, UP"s M-10000, including rare color footage.
  • Steam turbine electrics 1 & 2 in Omaha at the 1939 premiere of the movie Union Pacific.
  • The General Motors Train of Tomorrow, introducing Astra Domes in 1947.
  • The ribbon-cutting ceremony and inaugural run of the Aerotrain City of Las Vegas, shown inside and out and at its arrival in Las Vegas in 1956, with Liberace in the cab.
  • A 1959 scene with the entire crew of 35 employees lined up outside the City of Los Angeles to demonstrate the luxury of service provided aboard UP streamliners.
  • Dozens and dozens of run-bys at classic UP locations such as Echo Canyon, Sherman Hill, Cajon Pass, Puget Sound, and even aerial footage.
  • CTC board operations, maintenance-of-way track repair, and a tour of the back shops.
  • The last City of Los Angeles to depart L.A. Union Passenger Terminal in 1971 and the last UP passenger train to pull into L.A. from Chicago, seen trackside and from aboard the train.
Motive power includes EMD E-3s through E-9s and F-3s, Alco PAs and FAs, Fairbanks-Morse Erie-builts, steam turbine electrics, and more. Interior shots include club cars, lounges, dome coaches, dome diners, sleeping cars, and others. The list goes on and on! This exciting production will show you the UP streamliner era as it"s never been seen before!

As a railfan and photographer, I am much more interested in freights than passenger trains, but I enjoyed this DVD very much. It is way overpriced, even on sale, especially considering most, if not all the video footage was from archives.

Regardless, I still enjoyed watching it and it will remain in my DVD library.

the union pacific streamliner collection is the fourth and final collection series by pentrex (after a few years I decided to buy this one since I liked the other three videos of the collection series the ones on the southern Pacific's daylights and cab forward's and the popular one on the union pacific big boy's) the union pacific streamliner collection follows the story of how train travel would attract the public's eye and how the union pacific did it all and with history on many locomotives to the last run in 1971 when Amtrak took over operations all four videos are a must have as they're vary informative and hold a historical time in the past

This DVD is excellent. The quality is much better than I had expected. Once again Pentrex did a fine job. I enjoyed seeing the passenger trains that I model actually running over the railroad. Narration is frequently the weak point in railroading videos, but that is not the case here. The narrator seems knowledgeable and has a good voice for the job. There is a very good selection of locomotives, including the early E-units.

Highly recommended.

This is an excellent show giving you a great insight into the Union Pacific passenger train service,a little bit of history that's not overdone and plenty of footage of passenger trains in action with great quality and sound, thoroughly recommended to anyone who loves first generation diesels and passenger trains in typical Pentrex quality.

From the aftermath of the great depression with some steam in action as well as the rise of the Automobile by the Time NBC was there for a first hand look at the M-10000 in February of 1934 which does contain some scenes with President FDR visiting this marvelous machine, to the final run of the real Union Pacific Streamliner in 1971 which is not long before Amtrak's debut, this nearly 20 year old title from 2003 features a great variety of Early Diesels, the attempted Aerotrain which was also used on the Rock Island, Pennsylvania, New York Central & a handful of others, onboard footage from the coaches, beautiful scenery, & even 18 minutes of Mostly Black & white Commercials that has both Live Action & cartoons with songs. The bonus 10 minute PSA Film: Look Listen Live is also important to watch. Oh yes, & the segment where the locomotives took place in the Union Pacific Movie from 1939 with Barbara Stanwyck & Brian Donlevy.
