On October 29th 2011, Union Pacific steam locomotive #844 left its home in Cheyenne, WY and began a month-long tour to help celebrate the centennial of statehood in New Mexico and Arizona. In this program, we follow #844 on the first week of the tour as it travels from Cheyenne to Alamogordo, NM. Then at the end of the month, we reunite with the special in Ogden, UT for the 2-day return trip to Cheyenne.
Highlights include: multiple dramatic pacing scenes, majestic views of #844 operating in bitter cold temperatures with billowing clouds of white steam, and #844 traveling through blizzard conditions between Pueblo, CO and Dalhart, TX on BNSF trackage.
You'll see #844 on the Joint Line between Denver and Pueblo, crossing the impressive Canadian River bridge on the former Rock Island at Logan, NM, and climbing through scenic Echo Canyon in eastern Utah. #844 finally returns to Cheyenne with a twilight crossing of the famous Sherman Hill.
