GB&W Alco Train Action Across Wisconsin! The Green Bay & Western Railroad operated a fascinating 100% Alco powered diesel fleet. The colorful GB&W had a remarkable 122 year history before becoming a fallen flag to the Wisconsin Central in 1993. Their rail line stretched 255 miles from the shore of Lake Michigan at Kewaunee and traveled through Wisconsin's scenic forests and farmland to reach the Mississippi River and a connection with the Burlington Northern at East Winona.
Volume Two highlights include:
Switching and locals in Wisconsin Rapids, Plover and Green Bay; Norwood Yard action, roundhouse and turn table; Kewaunee Branch and railcar ferry action; a few road freights. Also GB&W passenger trains including: a business train and the 1993 farewell to the GB&W excursion. Plus connecting railroads FRV, C&NW and the E&LS. That great GB&W Alco sound and smoke are featured with diesel models: RS11, RS3 / 20, C420, C424 and RS27. Rail footage era 19871993 with great new footage from the cameras of Bradley A. Plets and Fred Hoeser.

This is a Blue Ray which is not a Blue Ray. All photos/videos were taken circa 1993 or earlier. Thus the crisp images one expects from a Blue Ray are absent. Sound was OK but nothing to celebrate. Lots of runbys from one end of GBW's 255 essentially straight line route across Wisconsin to the other. Became boring. Did show a Great Lakes RR/auto ferry loading which was interesting but not enough to salvage this disc from the public library which is its next stop. I should have been tipped off by the word "Tribute" in the title. This review is essentially the same as for Volume 1.

Additional remarks by Rail Buff:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: A little rough around the edges.
DVD Value: Overpriced for the amount of enjoyment I got out of it.
Recommend to others? Not unless they REALLY were interested in the subject matter.

I bought this video expecting to see switching operations which are seldomely filmed because they take a lot of time. I was positively impressed on the amount of switching operations that are covered in the video. The narration helped in understanding GBW's operations. The video image was very good. I really enjoyed the video and would highly recommend it.

Additional remarks by Enrique:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value: Excellent Value!
Recommend to others? Definitely.

I purchaed and watched the two volume set by Plets Express entitled Tribute to the Green Bay & Western Railroad and found it to be an excellent history of a long fallen flag railroad. Remembering that this railroad has been gone for nearly 25 years the fact that so much good quality footage is available is remarkable. For anyone who is interested in seeing the Wisconsin countryside, an all Alco railroad, and in getting lots of narrative and views of normally unseen rail locations, Id highly recommend this two volume series issued in 2017 but, obviously filmed when the railroad was still on operation, by now quite long ago.

Additional remarks by Tom Johnson:
Narration: Just enough.
Narration CAN be turned off in special features.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value:: Fair.
Recommend to others? Definitely.
