Through the Oregon Cascades Part 1
The Cascade Mountains of western Oregon are thick with tall timber growing along steep slopes broken by waterfalls and streams. This is the setting for a mountain railroad that climbs from deep within the Willamette Valley to nearly 5,000 feet above sea level at Cascade Summit.
Part 1: The Long Grade, begins at Eugene Yard and heads railroad south into the foothills of the Cascades. A forty mile 1.8% grade between Oakridge and Cascade Summit puts UP's newest locomotives to the test and keeps train crews on their toes. The line wraps around horse shoe curves, crosses trestles, and disappears through numerous rock sheds and tunnels before reaching the top of the pass.
In this highly anticipated follow up to Union Pacific's Cascade Sub, we hike deeper into the most remote parts of the line and visit ground zero of the Frazier Slide which closed the railroad for three months in 2008. This is one of the most rugged portions of the I-5 Corridor which links the Pacific Northwest with California!
Shot in beautiful hi-definition between 2008 and 2015 in all seasons, this is the ultimate journey through the Oregon Cascades!

The usual high grade product of 7Idea Productions with Aaron's artist's eye and poet's soul firmly intact. However, IMO, this is NOT a supplement to their non Blue Ray DVD over the same route, as advertised, but a replacement for that one. (I watched one and then the other.) While each has something the other doesn't. overall, they are very similar. Most shots are of the same locations, though the camera angle might be slightly different, and of course the scenery is vastly superior in the Blue Ray vs the DVD, as can be expected. And, Aaron did indeed hike to locations in the Blue Ray that he didn't in the DVD. Still, a very enjoyable disc and I will be looking forward to buying Part 2.

Awesome DVD...I know Aaron has done several DVD's on this area I have them all and there all the most excellent DVD's going, this one is no exception......fantastic photography, locations, maps, graphics and narration all come together to make for a great DVD. If you can't get enough heavy UP & BNSF main line action grab a copy of this DVD.......A "Must Have"

Another excellent 7idea production, Beautiful scenery and great camera angles, The highlight for me, would be a crude oil train with a 2+4+2 locomotive set up, with a UP SD90mac at the head end, in the snow, entering a tunnel. This particular train is shown three times, along with hordes of GE wide cabs. Very enjoyable program to watch.
