The Denver and Rio Grande's Royal Gorge Route over Tennessee Pass was the highest railroad mainline mountain pass in the United States. The pass crossed the Continental Divide between two mountain ranges – The Sawatch Range to the west and the Mosquito Range to the east. The line was originally a narrow gauge line and was later rebuilt to standard gauge. The 2.3% to 3.0% grade and tight 12 degree curve clearances of a line originally built to narrow gauge standards made for a long and torturous climb to the pass. The line was closed by the Union Pacific in 1997 after it bought the Rio Grande, which had recently merged with the Southern Pacific.

This program provides an interesting mix of historical information and photos with contemporary video throughout it's 80 minutes running time. This video includes some brief cab-ride sequences. Most trains run with 2 engines on the point a 4 helper engines in the middle of the train.

Narration is very good. Photography is sharp and crystal clear. There are no location or train symbol markers. Sound quality is very good. Steam engine sound effects are frequently dubbed in when historical photos are shown.
