Several avid railfans requested ,Blue Ridge Productions cover the Old Main Line of the B&O. With that in mind, we've spent parts of the last two years shooting whatever trains we could find on The Old Main Line" of the B&O Railroad. We've tried to give you as complete an idea of the railroad as we can, showing you tracks from Baltimore west to Frederick Junction. This video covers 55 miles along the oldest railroad in the nation.

We've covered almost every crossroad, overpass, all nine tunnels as well as showing some of the 175-year-old artifacts that were originally parts of the roadbed.

Luckily we caught a number of different types of trains to show all the different locations. Of course most of the trains were CSX powered, although there are occasionally some interesting visiting power units. We took efforts to give you some interesting views as well as show you parts of the Patapsco River Valley many folks have never seen before.

This is the first DVD of a 5-part series covering the Baltimore and Ohio's original main line - the first railroad in North America - from Baltimore MD to Grafton WV. This DVD covers the line from Baltimore to Frederick Junction. The narrator uses US Geological Survey Topographical Maps to show the location of each scene.

The program starts out with a brief history of the B&O, and we see operating replicas of the Tom Thumb and 4-2-0 #13 Lafayette steam engines from the earliest days of the B&O. The video then shifts to the Carrollton Viaduct, a 2 arch finished stone bridge built in 1828 and still is use today. Other highlights include a shot of the stone stringers for sections of the original alignment that was bypassed in 1902 but still visible, and a shot of the Ellicott City freight station which is the oldest standing freight station in the country. Also seen are the Davis, Dorsey, Hartman, Henryton, Ilchester, Mount Airy, Sykeville, Union Dam and Woodbine Tunnels. Ephraim Francis Baldwin designed stations are also highlighted.

Narration is sufficient, and markers are provided for all locations. The narrator gives train symbols for most trains. The photography is excellent. Unlike many other videos, this one does not dwell for a long time at any location, but shows just a few trains then moves on. The use of topo maps makes this video a Must Have for visiting railfans who are not familiar with the area. This is also a Must Have for B&O and CSX fans.
