The Lehigh Valley Railroad was an Anthracite coal hauling railroad which extended from New York City to Buffalo New York.
It was born out of the need to have reliable transportation of Anthracite Coal from the coal fields of Pennsylvania to the industrial areas in the East.
The railroad was known for its bright Cornell Red paint scheme and its premier passenger trains such as the Black Diamond, the John Wilkes and the Asa Packer which was named for its founder.
In volume 1 of The Lehigh Valley Railroad, we'll look at steam and first generation diesel operations from Jersey to Laurel Run, Pennsylvania, between the mid 1940's and the mid 1960's through the films of Arthur Angstadt, Charlie & Ken Bealer, the Alan Furler collection and the Randolph Kulp collection of the Lehigh Valley Chapter NRHS.

Mike Bednar may not have the best narrative voice, but you do get used to it. What his narration imparts is a priceless knowledge of the scenes and the operations at the time. Mike's appreciation and yes love for his chosen industry, pride if you will, shows through again and again. The product quality is outstanding, given the vintage material. Sound is dubbed, but expertly done. If you are a fan of this era, you want this program. If you are an LV fan-you have got to have it! I have several JP Media releases and have yet to get one that wasn't well done and worth the $.

High quality photography especially for the time period. Sound dubbing, steam, diesel, and gas.electric doodlebug is excellent. Narrator really knows his stuff. I learned a lot. Great video!

Unlike the "pre-canned" radio voiced narratives that accompany many videos that are scripted and sometimes incorrect, this one is obvious in it's detailed first hand knowledge of the subject matter and interesting facts. The narrator is a little hard to understand sometimes, you might want to rewind and watch sequences twice, but that's the great part about it...you can!
If you like the Lehigh Valley. You'll love this video. Kudos to the producers!

The Lehigh Valley Railroad Volume 1 DVD is undoubtedly the best LV DVD on the market and the only one I know of that is devoted exclusively to the years of steam and gas-electric operations. It is very professionally produced and accurately reflects LV East operations in the 1940's and 1950's.

As a non-American and very interested in the "Fallen Flags" I found this DVD very enjoyable.
The DVD has no sound so I found the commentry very informative and to be informed of the names of the people and their jobs was really great as well as sad because the Lehigh Valley is no more.

This is a fairly comprehensive cover of the Steam and early Diesel era. There is plenty of Mono-
Chrome and Colour action shots of Pacifics ( 4-6-2`s ) on the John Wilkes, Black Diamond and
some on the Asa Packer. Diesel Fans who like Alco PA`s in red will be happy. As far as Passenger
Consists you can see clearly the hotch potch of cars used before the named trains disappeared
On a personnel note although there are action shots of some "T" Class 4-8-4`s on Freights I wish there were more as T3`s are an all time favourite of mine.

Bold statement: This is the best vintage RR video I've seen to date: It's like going back in time with modern video equipment. It is mostly stunning color and some B&W and all sharp and crisp video quality. JPM really sets the standard here. Most of the narration is from Mike Bednar, and his knowledgeable and often humorous commentary really enhances this program. Alas the hour-and-5 minutes running time came too fast. With its steam and 1st generation diesels running on multiple track past "railroady" scenes replete with signal bridges, towers and junctions, this video will please all regardless of provincial preferences. A thoroughly enjoyable program
