Join us for a magical journey through the highlands of Scotland aboard the Jacobite steam train, on the famed West Highland Line from Fort William to Mallaig. You'll see the train in the magnificent highland scenery, the lochs and the glens and the curved viaduct at Glenfinnan (Harry Potter movie train scenes were filmed on the West Highland Line, the viaduct appears in the flying car scene.) Full musical score written especially for this program, and the narration tells of the often bloody history of the region, and about Bonnie Prince Charlies uprising. Bonus feature - ride the ferry over the sea to Skye, and take a scenic tour of this beautiful island.

Originally released in 2005, which was one of the final titles to be released by highball productions on VHS, it features an onboard ride & some ground shots of K-1 class 2-6-0 number 62005 which was built in 1949 while running tender first for most of the time, as well as lots of spectacular scenery, rolls through various semaphore signals, rivers, bridges, canals, churches, seagulls, & even a ride on a ferry boat. Along the way, there are lots of stone-built structures from centuries earlier, as well as a closer look at the canal itself. Not to mention the ScotRail motor cars, as well as various boats at sea, & most important of all: the bridge that was shown in almost each & every Harry Potter film by Warner Bros: the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which on the big screen, 4-6-0 number 5972 “Olton Hall” the Hogwarts Express crosses over the bridge itself in some films.

The Main Train Ride ran for a full hour while the bonus segment with a boat ride, sheep, mountains, Yaks & the Atlantic Ocean itself ran for only 10 minutes.

The music in this program that was composed by Brandon Howell is very relaxing throughout this entire journey in Northwestern Europe.

All in all, these angles from Peter Crooke were very interesting as well as tons of informative narration from Juan Jose Agiurre.

More a travelogue than a rail movie. Very little talk about rail and lots of talk about the scenery, which was very pretty. Once again incessant music from start to finish and no way to turn it off.

This dvd of the Jacobite Steam Train is one of the best train travel shows I've ever seen. There are several scenes showing the train itself, however, the main feature shows the scenery as if one is a passenger enjoying the beautiful Scottish countryside. Enjoyed this production and only wish I could afford to go to Scotland to take this trip in person. Would like to add this dvd is not a promotion of the West Highland Line to promoting one to take the Jacobite Steam Train so the company can make more profit. This dvd has a greater appeal as a travel show than a business promotion.
