Acclaimed by critics and fans alike, this has been a best selling video featuring Southern Pacific and the Rio Grande. This was the highest main line in the US with 3% grades and 40,000 HP trains. See plenty of manifests, coal, taconite and other trains. Colorful pool power, helpers and great train pacing plus all the heavy, colorful action in a beautiful mountain setting. See Power-heavy 100 car coal trains with 9 ACs battling the high altitude and steep grades like you'll never see again. THIS HISTORICAL ROYAL GORGE ROUTE WAS ABANDONED IN SEPTEMBER OF 1997. This movie was there to capture the last months of operation. Coal, Manifest and merchandise trains all run by the two cameras on a journey from Pueblo to Dotsero, Colorado where the line joins with the Moffat Route. We also show early the history of regional narrow and standard gauge development and explain the DRGW operating strategies right to the end of operation. A surprise includes a solid segment on surviving DRGW power on the Southern Pacific system into the late 90's. Included are GP-30, SD-50s, SD45s, and sets of DRGW SD45t-2's pulling on steep grades. The Tennessee Pass line is closed for now but you can relive all the action in this critically acclaimed beautifully shot 90 minute documentary. THIS IS 220 MILES OF RAILROADING FROM PUEBLO TO DOTSERO, CO - TRAINS MAGAZINE in their April 1997 issue asked Looking for a fine contemporary film to go with this months Tennessee Pass article? Well Charles Smiley has it, and it's a great guide! See a smattering of GE and older EMDs as they struggle up the highest mainline in North America.

QUALTY OF PICTURE A BIT POOR COMPARED WITH OTHER CHARLES SMILEY DVDs I HAVE IN MY COLLECTION 6/10. ROGER.

Additional remarks by ROGER:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: A little rough around the edges.
DVD Value: Overpriced for the amount of enjoyment I got out of it.
Recommend to others? Definitely not!.

From Pueblo Colorado to the Summit at 10,240 ft. to Dotsero, witness all the action along this now closed line.
Alone with Rio Grande, appearances by UP, SP, BN Cascade Greens, WC, SOO Line, various lease units, including a Metro North unit. There are some short side trips to California, the Durango & Silverton RR, Soldier Summit, etc...
The History of the line is well covered, along with maps and black & white photos. Other scenes of interest are - high cable cars over Canon, hitchhikers on the train, train pacing near Sage, and more.
Movie goes on to various locations where Rio Grande engines were spotted throughout the SP system after the merger. Over all, a good movie of interest. Worth the time to sit and enjoy more than a few times.
